Section 1: Introduction

What is Ask the Devs?
Ask the devs is a monthly live webchat with the developers of Planetside using Auraxis Global Network's shoutcast servers. Hosted by Planetside Universe founders Marsman and Hamma, the chat consists of questions submitted by the community, answered by the Planetside devs live!

Which Devs participate?
There are usually two guests from the dev team, one always being Community Manager Victor "Sporkfire" Wachter. Creative Director Dave "SmokeJumper" Georgeson can also attend and the current producer Raja "CriticalMass" Altenhoff made his debut in April.

When does Ask the Devs take place?
Ask the devs typically happens on the Thursday after AGN's Community Night and usaully takes place at 8pm EST (5pm PST, 12AM GMT/1AM BST). It is normally announced on both www.planetside.com and www.planetside-universe.com.

What is the procedure for an Ask the Devs show?
After the intial introductions, AGN hosts Marsman and Hamma will ask user submitted questions (see below) to the developers. There is a break at around the midpoint of the show (about an hour or so) and this will give you a chance to ask questions via the AGN-bot (also see below). Questions will be picked (rather quickly) from the list of the newly submitted questions before the show ends.

Section 2: Submitting Questions

How do I submit my questions ahead of time?
The majority of questions are submitted via the form found here. You will need to be registered on the PSU forums which can be done here. Questions will be chosen from those submitted via this method for the first half of the show. All questions are reviewed before being added to the question list.

How many questions am I allowed?
You may only submit 3 questions, this is to allow everyone the chance to submit their questions without flooding the PSU staff. Do not attempt to use multiple accounts to submit extra questions. If you want to submit more questions, you will have to do so via the AGN-bot during the interval.

Can I edit or re-submit my questions?
Not at this time, no.

How do I use the AGN-bot?
The AGN-bot is automated computer process which resides in #agn, in other words, it's not a person. Whilst enabled during the interval in the Ask the Devs broadcast you will be able to submit as many questions as you like, but do not repeat any questions. To submit a question, simply type !q followed by your question in #agn. It is disabled shortly before the broadcast resumes. Please bare in mind that Marsman and Hamma do not have a lot of time to pick out questions from what is often a large list of AGN-bot submissions.

How many questions are asked?
Around 50 from the pre-submitted question list and no more than 10 from the AGN-bot submissions. However even if your question is not asked in the actual broadcast don't worry as all the submitted questions are sent to the developers after the show.

Section 3: Listening In

How do I listen to the chat?
The AGN shoutcast FAQ has all you need to know about how to connect to the live broadcast using Winamp, Windows Media Player or Quicktime. If you're unable to listen in live or want to listen to it again, you can choose to stream the chat or download it in full after the broadcast has ended. Both are available from the AGN downloads page and are generally uploaded about an hour after the dev chat has finished.

How do I get to #agn?
If you haven't used IRC or the mIRC client before, check out the PSU IRC FAQ. Once connected, simply type /join #agn without any space before the /. If you have used IRC before, simply connect to irc.planetside-universe.com:6667 and join the #agn channel.

Section 4: Miscelleneous

Who makes the Planetside commercials on Ask the Devs?
Credit for all commercials featured on AGN goes to PSU-Flynt.

Can they be downloaded?
The commercials are the property of AGN and are not available for seperate download. However there are always a few on each dev chat and community night so be sure to tune in to enjoy them.
