i've seen a billion threads on it and lets just make one official. if anyone feels like they want to start a topic or have a question on WoW they can ask it here. overall i have a question of will there be an actual winning scenario? or is it just do quests/level up forever? i want to know the whole scope on this.

I really doubt it'll have anything close to an "end-game." It, if anything, like you said, will most likely be quest/levelup, with 'hopefully' some PvP action thrown in there. And i think they're trying to make Owning a house possible... in fact i think there is a furnishing skill or something close :D so... to sum it up... just living the life of a Warcraft character.

I'm probably going to be an NE Hunter Class. Skills would be mounting, language, and... herbalism or potions or something. Just the ability to go out into the wild and live off the land. They're taking a note from SWG and making the races speak different languages. Unless you know another race's language, communication is impossible, so you hire a translator. As you get to mid level in that you speak decently with a couple garbled words here and there, at the higher levels you can speak perfectly with other races. Mounting, I'll probably be riding a hippo or a horse or maybe a wolf.

On the Tauren druid I'll make later, I won't need mounting out of my leet ability to become a crow and all that.

WoW will be freakin 1337.

The linguistic barriers only apply for the NPC's.
Being in an orc town being Tauren would be a problem, since well you need to know orcish to be able to buy crap!

Player interaction will be in basic a.k.a English

yeah... would be kinda silly to force friends to use IM to talk to each other if the decieded to be different races....

WoW does look sweet... I'll probably be a human mage/whatever...... haven't really put much thought into it though.

hmm i never really thought about the translation thing but i do remember the secondary skills in linguistics and stuff. so yeah it must only apply to NPCs.

do all races speak different languages? like dwarves/night elves/humans are all diff??

what sites does everyone get their info from? i really personally love www.worldofwar.net

I believe it will work like how EQ worked. If your playing a Tauren and your talking to your Orc friend everything you said will come out all weirded to him(though you are typing english) till his character learns the other language.

No really they changed it so now that if you group you have a teach option. So you automaticly teach them...which is unlike EQ or WoW where your toon learns the language over time as the other toon keeps talking.

i've pretty much given up on mmorpg games.

i wasted a ton of money on everquest, bought daoc and hated it, and shelled out $20 for sw:g and got bored with it in a month.

and world of warcraft's striking lack of... well... war kinda turns me off.

2003-07-26, 09:37 PM
what about DAOC's war? dont they have realm vs realm battles with like thousands of ppl?

Robot
2003-07-26, 09:45 PM
if you replace, "war" with, "random skirmishes" and, "thousands of people" with, "occasionally one hundred which makes the battle horribly, horribly laggy" then, yes.

WickedDeus
2003-07-26, 09:48 PM
Yeah, but more like hundreds of people not thousands. WoW will have wars(battles) in arenas and battlefields.

Robot how long did you play? Though I've quit a while back I have friends still in the game. Lag has gotten much better.

i played around one day after it opened. got intensely bored with it and cancelled after around 4 or 5 months.

Ok, well since their last expansion the lag issue has pretty much been fixed. Lots more to do now.
