Hey,

I got the unfucking believable radeon 9700 pro...Anyway, it's great, but in America's Army, I got shit FPS. I don't know what the deal is, I mean like 25-45 fps. WTF is that. What kinda optimizations are there, what settings should I set etc. etc....

I got a amd athlon 1.7 clocked in safely at 1.2, with 1.2 gig of pc133 (I know). Anyway, if you know anything I can tweek, I'm a numbers freak as it is, but that is nuts in AA.

If your doing bad in AA dont even go near T2 ;).

Can't help you though, not in that situation or anything like it. hardocp.com's forums would have you an answer a few seconds after hitting the post button :).

You have an AMD 1.7 ghz clocked at 1.2 ghz?

annyways, get the latest WHQL 3.0 cat drivers and DX9 (install dx9 first) you should get a better performance then. can also overclock the radeon 9700 clocks whit rivatuner from guru3d.com.. only use 4xAA and 4-8x Ansio filtering...

Also the radeon NEEDS a 1.4ghz cpu to even do it somewhat justice else it performs worse than a G4 (don't have a link to the tests atm)

Could also list your full system specs, might make it easier.

That CPU and RAM setup is a HUGE bottleneck for that graphics card. It's just not able to give it information fast enough. If you upgraded your cpu/ram you'd get a big increase in performance. And why do you have it underclocked so much?

I was wondering that to. Why would you downclock your cpu?... but yeah powda is right, your cpu/ram isn't really the best setup for optimum performance with that card.

More than Likely, he's got an Older Motherboard that only supports those speeds.

But that's just speculation... :)

K,

Yeah, it is upgrade time, but I'm just going to wait a few months. I found a good deal on the video card from an actual retailer so I bought it. I was going to upgrade the mboard, processor and ram, then get the vid later, but ended up doing it backwards. I'm planning on upgrading, so thats not and issue.

I miss stated also, I have an amd 1700 not 1.7 - I don't know why I wrote that. The 1700 is clocked in at 1.2 naturally. I have over clocked that before but the heat becomes an issue unless I pull the side of my case off. The mboard is not agp 4x either. It's not a big deal because I plan on upgrading later.

I'm looking at getting the amd 2800 and researching it's boards a little better. Anyway, my question is as to wtf performance is such shit on that game but no others. It rules on everything else. I also have a little problem with bf1942. The graphics are AMAZING, but the text, in game, looks like it is trying to be 3d and only is showing the front half.

Anyway, it's not that big of a deal.

Heres my spex

AMD 1700 on a SIS 735
1.2 gig of pc133
60 gig wd hd
samsung rw combo
old ass 52x
run adsl through a speadstream 5220 through a belkin pos router
thats all I can think of for now

graphic settings:

1024*768
96 dpi
moniter refreshers at 60 hertz (It maxes out at 85 so leave me alone)
full hardware acceleration
4x agp with fast write on
Catalyst v 3.0 drivers
Open GL - AA and Anistrophic are both set at application preference
TRUFORM is always off
vert synch is set to application preference
force z-buffer depth is disabled
support ktx buffer region extension is disabled
Direct 3d - AA and Anistrop. are both set to app. pref.
Vert synch and truform are app pref
support dtx tecture is enabled
alternate pixel center is disabled

THere ya go. I know it's not over clocked or anything, I don't want to do that (yet). If anyone one tech savvy sees anything weird, let me know.

I've also got this weird thing where some times pics just won't load. I just can't see them. Everyone else can. Everything seems to be set right.....

Well for One thing... the AMD Athlon XP 1700+ runs at a native rate of 1463 Mhz (133FSB*11). If you're running it at or around 1200MHz then you are Underclocking it. If you are trying to run it at the correct speed and it overheats, then you either have a 'bunk processor (could be Bad or Remarked) or you have a Bad CPU Heatsink/Fan or you have SERIOUS airflow issues inside your case. My guess is it's your Heatsink/Fan combo.

You're right on Arg, it is a heat problem, if I clock it up too much, it just chokes out. It really doesn't bother me coming in at 1.2, and I'm gonna sell this one to my bro, and upgrade to a more longterm system anyway. Do you see anything in those settings that would be messing with aa, and the text in bf1942. Hell, my old vid card could hit those rates in AA (But not in anything else. - UR2k3 with every thing maxed out and on is a work of friggin fraggin art).

Do you have your computer in a cabinet or something? Unless you have one fan then you shouldn't really have that much of a problem with heat.

Naah, it's just that the only fans are on the powersupply, processor, and vid card, I don't have a case fan. I've got an old case.

Ok this is going to sound really dumb and insulting, but you just have to check it. Make sure you didn't install the heatsink backwards on ur cpu. I know of a guy that did this and his cpu would overheat and crash all the time. Also do you know what temperature your cpu runs at normally?

BLuE_ZeRO

I'm thinking it's just his case. If it's relatively old and it doesn't have it's own fans his cpu will overheat. AMDs tend to get very hot especially with bad airflow. I remember the first time I fried my cpu... brings a tear to my eye :tear:

Go to http://www.rage3d.com theyre a site dedicated to Radeon cards. Awesome site, helped me increase performance a lot, mostly the forums.

Radeon 9700 Pro owns =)

Sorry, I should have closed this thread, there is a certain way you have to install drivers and software thats all.

Another thing that could be the problem ,Is AA doesnt support
ATI cards ,your lucky it even works ,its completely set up for Nvidia cards now I dont know about the newest update to AA
but even after the paratrooper update there was still no support
:(

@Navaron:

Changes in D3D and OpenGL to gain some more speed:

V-sync = off
AA = x2 or off(better/faster/lessimagequality)
Anisotrophic = to a medium adjustment
Colordepht = 16 Bit (always faster than 32Bit)

Monitor refrechrate to 70 to 85 Hertz to take care of your eyes ;D
