Day 1
7:00 AM (Central Auraxis Time)
Searhus
Outskirts of Terran Base
A mass of gold soldiers drifted silently through the trees, moving stealthily along with weapons drawn. They did not pause to glance at the sentries whose throats were already cut by the advance infiltrator sweep.
The attack began normally enough, but swiftly became one of the most horrific conflicts Auraxis had yet seen.
Searo glanced around the platoon, all were gold, no rookie blues were among them. He was not leading of course, but had been hanging around the Sanct while not on Active Corp Duty, and had somehow gotten picked up.
The jog from the 'gate had been long, no armor or air support would be allowed. This mission was nearly specops, if not for the larger quantity of troops.
There was strict radio silence, everyone remembered the plan and where to go. Searo began circling over to the east ridge, where he and four other snipers would bring down all the men on the roof.
They were in the crater, and the sky was filled with ash, blotting out the twin moons that always seemed visible. There were few trees here, most were consumed by heat and lava.
Looks like hell.... Searo thought grimly. Just the right touch of heat, sulfur, and brimstone, all it needed was a red man with horns and a tail.
He had recognized a few other Freedom Corp soldiers that had tagged along for the fight, but his outfit wasn't prominent in this group. It was being led by the newly famous General Haldert, a high-up in Command.
Searo reached the ridge and crouched with the other men. They all ignored each other, regulated their breathing, waited for a good shot. Searo heard the whistle of a bird that frequented these craters.
It was the sign.
Searo and a grizzled sniper nearby both trained their rifles on him, and fired. Searo's shot struck slightly ahead, hitting the man in the side, near his kidney. The bullet passed through. His fellow sniper hit the man in the chest, narrowly missing his heart. Essentialy, the enemy soldier disintegrated and fell. Two others died in this manner, and the rest ducked for cover while the sounds of Bolt Drivers breaking open surrounded Searo.
"Go," came the single terse word uttered by Haldert over the comm, and Searo saw the rest of the platoon slip into the bowels of the base. Searo and two other snipers stood up, and pulled out various other weapons. The remaining two would make sure there was no movement on the roof.
Searo headed for the back door at a quick clip, reaching it before the circuitry re-routed itself and locked against intruders. He went ahead, shotgun at the ready. The others had cleared this path already, but you couldn't be sure. Muffled booms sounded from the spawn chamber, the tubes were going down.
The attack was going as planned...the siege had not yet begun.
