This is in reference to the idea stated on the PlanetSide Idea Lab Forums:
http://s3.************.com/Planetside_Idealab/index.php?showtopic=136
...and the general-information thread here on the PlanetSide-universe.com Forums:
http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26260
Please read all of the info on the first link stated here carefully, before making your decision. For those who don't wish to read all the replies, here is a brief outline of what the project will entail:
A new section of the PlanetSide-universe.com Network would be created called the Department of PSPV (PlanetSide Project Visualisation). Its focus would be on ideas posted by fans of the game on the PlanetSide Idea Lab Forums, for those who want to see certain things that are currently missing out of PlanetSide, or ideas they believe would improve the overall diversity and gameplay between the three Empires of choice.
A test of what the proposed engine could do (the Half-Life 2 engine, or SOURCE as it is known) would be a video-remake of the fictional AGN-broadcast, "The Day The AGN Went Silent" (http://www.planetside-universe.com/...in/agn/agn1.mp3). After its release (and if the comments for the video are favourable), fan-based ideas would then be created in the engine as the next stage, as 'prototypes' for display on the PSU website. This is so both the fans and the game’s development team could download them for review, and post any comments on ideas in the new PSPV section of the PSU Forums.
Should the ideas be well thought out, SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) would provide credit to whoever posted the idea first on the PSIL Forums. Bear in mind that this credence would probably be free, unless there are special circumstances involved (such as a special event being done with the PSU Staff in co-operation with SOE).
Competitions may be a possibility, as well as a Single-Player Mod Campaign (on the understanding that SOE give us permission to do so). For competitions, prizes would most likely be PlanetSide-related, or at least provided by SOE from their back-catalogue or upcoming range of products.
An email is being sent to the PlanetSide Development Team on this matter, and a reply is expected within the next week or so as to whether we will be allowed to pursue this long-term project.
