-It is third-person space.
-There is both PvNPC and PvP.
-Is it fun? I found it kinda boring, but you really need in-game friends or a group to help you out.

Personally I enjoy EVE. Its fun when you have a bunch of friends on and you get involved in PVP. Sure its going to be boring if you just sit around mining, or attack the same NPC spawns over and over. PVP is where EVE really shines IMHO. Anyone who tells you that it is totally boring has probably never participated in PVP.

Theres probably around a hundred or so different ships you can fly, ranging from Interceptor Frigates to Heavy Assault Cruisers to Battleships. Theres over a dozen classes of ships and in each theres usually several different ship types. Then theres 4 race variants of each specific ship. You can completely customize the fittings and setup of your ship(s) (you can own as many ships as you like) with thousands of different weapons and modules. Its a very pretty game and combat looks great, and can be very engaging if you are fighting a challenging opponent. We have our own PSU Corp in game with about 20 members, of which more than half play on a daily basis. Leveling is done via training skills that take a certain amount of time, even when you arent in game. So if you get tired of playing, you can always set a long skill, come back a week or so later, and you have new abilities to play with.

EVE may or may not be for you, but don't go on the advice of one or 2 people who only played the trial and didn't experience the full potential of the game and PVP combat.

Right OK I've heard enough to know it's not the kind of game I want to buy. I'm into MMO/pvp/sci-fi is there any others? (discarding planetside of course)

Anarchy Online, although its much more PvE than PvP, and the PvP doesn't really get started until you have played it for awhile ... and even then the winner is usually the person that has twinked their character(s) the most. :D

They are offering a 1-year free trial for the basic game, though. Doesn't include the 2 1/2 expansions, but hey ... it's a year free.

Neocron might be worth a look, too.

Thats the thing tho, it IS an MMO/pvp/sci-fi. http://planetside-universe.com/forums/images/smilies/huh.gif I can understand if you don't like RPGs but EVE is exactly what you stated. So yeah, you're confusing me. I'm not trying to push the game on you or anything but perhaps you need to go visit the website or something and make sure you actually have an understanding of what its about, as I'm not sure you do.

I can understand if you just aren't into the whole RPG scene or if you don't enjoy space-based combat, just make sure you know what a game is about before you brush it aside.
