That's the title of IGN's article
"The online Auction House to be implemented through Battle.net for Blizzard's upcoming action-role-playing game will allow you to put in-game items up for sale for real money. You set the price, other players bid or buy out, you make the profit. "
Interesting system

There's a few more articles at IGN.com about it requiring a constant online connection, and other stuff.

And all across the Peoples Republic of China, gold-selling prison wardens let loose a cheer whilst gold-farming prisoners cried a tear for baby Jesus. And elsewhere in the world, MMO-RPG players across the globe await with baited breath for potential relief from the massive walls of gold-spam as little Communist capitalists march towards Diablo III.

Meh, I'd rather get into the beta for POE: http://www.pathofexile.com/
Its what diablo3 should had looked like holding firm to its tradition of dark and gritty gameplay. Not to mention this game unlike D3 will be F2p and will probably be released sooner then diablo. :p

its funny what cans of worms blizzard has just opened. i wonder if they realise just how horrible this might be because they just linked real money with actual ingame value.
Big. Big. Mistake.

It's a whole new era for slavery. Why force your kids to farm in WoW illegally when Diablo has a system for it lol.

I think it's first E3 was in 09, so I don't think so
They also mentioned it would be on the console versions too.

Since it's not a subscription game I guess they have to find some way to fund the servers over an extended period of time....

So you've never heard of Station Exchange, EVE-Online PLEX/Aurum, Entropia Universe, or any other game that has microtranscations for in-game stuff?

It's bated breath... just so you all know ;)

Problem is that this ISN'T an MMO.

Brush your teeth, floss, and rinse with mouthwash. That might solve the problem.

It's still money having in-game value though.

If good dental hygene educates the masses about this oft used misquote then so be it! :P~

Aslong as there is a way to get the items without paying for it with real money and you can earn it ingame i guess ill be alright with it, but i still dont understand you have to be online even when your playing single player

This already happens in D2, blizzard are simply streamlining the process and making it more secure for players who do want to use real money to purchase items, of course while making some profit.
they now open up another can of worms with since the item is paid for in real money, who owns the item, or the virtually currency, i guess still blizzard, but I guess their lawyers are already all over that.
I too was outraged when i first herd it, but giving it some thought, checking out their reasoning behind it then meh.

You'll be auctioning off stuff you find in game. The Internet connection required for single player is real shitty deal though. Had enough of that from Ubisoft :(

Since it's a ultimately an table row in a database somewhere, undoubtedly Blizzard. Will have to see the EULA and auction house terms of use for legalese.

I remember just hacking in items into multiplayer instead of grinding for them. Made the game more enjoyable with friends. I imagine they blocked that then since selling items in D2 wouldn't really make sense.
As for a cash shop for items it seems a bit silly. I played D2 for like 4 weeks. It wasn't really that great of a game. Got a bit repetitive. From looking at the videos of D3 though it looks to be the same button mashing thing though. I will hand it to blizzard though. They figured out the reward model really well with WoW so it's possible this could work.

Great....for a game entirely based of getting random gear they sure do get rid of it with a "buy" button. Why even play a game when you can just buy all the gear and even the character now? Do people not like actually playing games these days or something?
And way to support the chinese gold farmers, thought it was something Blizz used to fight agaisn't but now they openly support it.
And finnaly f*** internet connection needed to play single player. Have your hardcore mode character die from a lag spike and start all over again.
EDIT: And no modding. Ya, the community thanks you. Espically all the people who modded D2 and kept it alive way longer than it should have.

Now that I think about it, looks like they are just making something so gold famers have a place to go... Herd em all in there so us real gamers can play real games :)
