Anyone hear about this and sign up for the beta?

I've been very reluctant to try any of the DOTA clones but I'm actually kind of interested in this.

I like LoL, but HoN has an awful community and staff.

I might try DotA 2 but honestly, I'm tired of all these games bringing nothing to the table. At least LoL had the decency to release a new game mode.

Never heard of Defence of the Ancients (so others don't have to look it up hehe) but have been enjoying the stream... even if I'm learning it as I go along hehe

Glad I wasn't the only one that had to look it up.

Played DOTA maps back before it became defense of the ancients all-stars which it was before it became just DOTA. Great game, been watching the live casts despite it being on at 1am.

It's heavily focused on team play without stopping individual skill from making a major difference. Customization is provided by the different heroes and the different ways you can play each with items and the way you level. A lot of depth in that regard. Think of all the fun you have in an RPG of getting items, leveling, and fighting compressed into 1 hour of gameplay. There's ~97 unique heroes so it's REALLY hard for the game to get old or play the same. It's a great game for a group of friends on voice to just hang out with.

I'll probably play it some because my friend has a hardon for DOTA. It's boring as watching paint dry to watch though.

I played LoL (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/) for a while and it's good but I eventually lost interest like I do with everything. I do, however, keep livestreams up on one of my screens at work whenever there's a tournament on. Moba (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplayer_Online_Battle_Arena) and RTS are the only e-sports I can get into watching.

Nice to see the Dota2 beta signup is back up. I watched some of the invitational this week and the game looks nearly identical to all of the others. Different engine. Different art. Simpler stat system. I don't know if it's enough to pull me away from LoL. League's art pops more and the devs have clearly shown that they're dedicated to the community. All that Dota2 has going for it is Valve being Valve. No small thing but it's the only shoe they have in the door at this point.

Basically, Dota2 needs more shoes. That's all I'm saying.

edit: If my grasp of GMT is right (the board says 07:24) the next round of Intel Masters matches starts in a little under an hour here (http://iemgamescom.leagueoflegends.com/).

The battle will be between LoL and DOTA2. Right now it is impossible to tell who will win. LoL is the only moba game I played, but for all the press i have been reading it will be a good fight for who wins king of the MOBA genre.

My prediction: LoL is an already established game(more active accounts than WoW, i know its a free game, but that still means something) DOTA2 will be a better game but because of LoL's head start it will end up being more popular.

^^^ Do you think the same could be said about WoW v Rift? The latter is newer and cleaner but the former is entrenched. Both broke the 1million Western mark (iirc wow's western market peaked at 4mil, most of the 12mil was Asia) but WoW's a juggernaut with momentum to spare.

I think LoL and Dota2 will rock on side by side, grabbing people with different loyalties and tastes. LoL's got momentum and Dota2 has both the name and Valve's might. HoN will get choked out and be left to the die-hards.

I've been impressed by how simply picking your team requires a lot of strategy, it's like a mini-game in itself.

Watched LoL the last few hours of work last night. Guess I can watch Dota2 the same time tonight. Compare and contrast. :)

The champions in DOTA2 seem abit more unique than the ones in LoL.

In LoL, no one really seems to have a really unique move its all some form of slow/knock up/knock back/chained attack/large nuke. Where as in DOTA2 there is a champion that can control the neuteral mobs in the jungle, and the Windrunner has a normal move (non ultimate move) that is a giant skillshot with massive range.

I'm an avid LoL player, but the champions and how they handle in DOTA2 just seem abit more interesting.

Think I will be sticking to LoL in these kind of games. :)

DOTA2 has DOTA's community, HON's community (which probably only play HON because there's no DOTA2 atm) and VALVe's community.

Unless it's F2P I'm sure LOL will always have more players though.

I'll be honestly surprised if HoN is even around when DotA2 is released.

Considering the Staff's attitude and the fact that its a raging clone, I don't doubt it as a possibility.

DOTA 2 will of course attract all the old DOTA fans that are playing HoN, LoL, and old DOTA.

The main difference I see between DOTA2 and LoL is really the skill level and engine. LoL is a much simpler game and that appeals to alot of people. Its combat pace in terms of positioning and movement are much slower and it is realativly easy game to play. DOTA2 on the otherhand is less forgiving but allows for skill growth and surprizing gameplay. Plus there is alot more strategy and depth in the gameplay and battles. I know I have had some amazing moments in DOTA that I felt were epic but never really got close to that with LoL.

DOTA2 will hate LoL for being noob and easy while LoL while hate DOTA2 for being a hater and not accepting what it is.

Yeah absolutely. But I don't have to high expectations after watching the live stream from Gamescom which didn't impress me that immensely. :)

Got into DOTA 2. I like it so far, it has a better feel to it than LoL in my opinion, darker instead of shiny.

Dota 2 gets a point for better graphics, LoL gets a point for better interface.
