View Full Version : Trivial – Boarding Galaxies

A really quick and simple idea this one.
Allow the boarding of galaxies to be based on proximity, not “landed and stationary”.
Do I think it will ever be used in any meaningful way during game play ever? - nope!
Do I think it could be used by many of the budding machinima directors we have on this site? - yes!
Allow a player to board a galaxy (in the appropriate slot) while it is in the air and even while moving. It gives access to those “cinematic moments” that make great advertisements for the game.
So yeh, not a game changer this one, just something to do while code compiles besides minecraft =D

How would simply climb inside a huge boat going 200 km/h?

yeah.. PS2 definitely needs more of this:
Battlefield 3 - RendeZook - YouTube
Not.

you could always put a speed cap on it, but if you can enter the galaxy before it runs you down at that speed, I say well done ^^

I think that was about perfect. You could still get in as the thing was taking off, but not pick up maxes mid jump while flying at full speed.

If there's a 4 story tower surrounded by a thick forest for 3 miles I'd like my squad's Galaxy to be able to hover over the roof as we board.

since the devs said there will be no boarding animations, i doubt that this would be of use for machinima editors :-(
but it would help boarding on rooftops with a speedcap

Also, bring back animations + make sure there are speed limits for basic enter/exit (not including ejects, but ejected vehicles should be undrivable)

i don´t think the op was about the pilot of the galaxy, but only about the passengers.
sure, being able to enter a totally unmanned gal in midair like this bf3 shit would suck!
but having a piloted gal hovering at low speed and at an alt of 1 meter over the ground being able to pick up passengers would make sense.

Would it? I think it would be cool to make videos on having galaxies do loops and having the pilot bail and jump back in. Would be sweet if you could coordinate a set of striker users to bail during a loop, lock-on to an enemy plane, and launch, then jump back in. That would sweet.

If you make it so that vehicles need to be moving slowly in order to be entered, wouldn't the "rendezook" still be possible?
As I understand it, vehicles when exited keep their momentum, as do you. So unless you're less aerodynamic then the galaxy wouldn't you just stay with it, and be able to enter it once it loses all momentum and starts to fall?
Also, will I be able to have my friend sit ontop of my galaxy with a sniper rifle and snipe from the sky as long as I move REALLY REALLY SLOW.

problem is, the galaxy will always have more momentum than its occupants. The only thing slowing the both of you down is the friction in the air (or hitting the ground), and the amount of mass behind your momentum.
Since the galaxy has many, many, many, many, times your mass, it will always take longer to slow down, as it requires much more force to counter the momentum of its mass.

Aircraft tend to be more aerodynamic than people as well, although the Galaxy is a big, blocky sonofabitch.
