Foreword:

Recently we've seen a lot of FPS's try to integrate social media into themselves and I think only Battlefield 3 has come close to getting to what i would consider decent, the browser-based launcher is pretty cool along with the com-center. I think however where they lack is integrating themselves into existing social media.

I've seen some things mentioned in other threads talking about how the social media will be used as a glorified marketing gimmick, but I think it can be far more than that.

I don't still play Planetside for the game-play, I play it because it is in itself a social experience. Things like Facebook, twitter, and systems like BF3's Battlelog only serve to enhance this experience. They are a part of a growing number of people's everyday lives, and will continue to be into the future.

Functions I want to Have:

Instant Sceen Capture Uploads
Mentioned Before, But rather than uploading them later or taking a ShakeyCam with your smartphone *cough*Higby*cough* you can instantly pump them to twitter or onto Facebook with the Planetside 2 FB Ap
An integrated Video-Capture Solution
Able to be bound to a hotkey to catch that awesome killstreak you just had, upload it with the click of a button.
Integrated Browser, Twitter App, FB App etc.
I don't really want to leave my MMO which I might play for hours in order to check the internet, these things would be great to have and quite convenient.
Dedicated Smartphone Applications
These might include a variety of functions like:

Live feeds of the map hex grid.
Populations of the Servers
Who in your Outfit is online
An outfit "Pager" feature that could send out 'calls to arms' or announce events.
Ability to answer in game messages
Manage your skill/cert training

Access to some kind of in game MP3 player, youtube or Grooveshark would be awesome.
Music is awesome to kill people to.
An Extraordinarily Robust Voice Client
I'm not sure what Vivox is capable of, but it would interesting if it were able to replace a dedicated Mumble, TS, or Vent Server. For instance if an outfit wanted to divide voice channels into "divisions" and designate voice moderators.

I know a lot of people are old and crusty but as one who was born at the END of the 1980's I've grown far more accustomed to having access to all my Social Media all the time, and have been addicted to retweets, FB likes and that stuff. This is stuff I would use, I don't think i'm alone, but I think there are a lot of veterans who will oppose the inclusion of any social media. And for the love of god if you're concerned with bandwidth, you might want to consider broadband.

I'm sure this is more useful than the /pizza command at least.... Though I'd be happy to see that come back.

Realistically I don't think that SOE has the muscle to pull some of things off, but maybe by saying that they'll do it to spite me.

Have ideas? Throw them below and i'll update the developer "wishlist".

Social Media, SOE Credits and in-game attrition.
I'm a veteran and I understand some value of social media communication with PlanetSide 2 could greatly improve popularity and maybe sales.

the Individual
Since PlanetSide 2 will be using SOE Credits where we purchase variations of equipments, I'd say a social media reference would work brilliant for individual PlanetSide2 gamers.

Outfit Interlink social media application
(to Opt-IN / Opt-OUT of Commlink services below)
Profile page.

Referrals (Player earns SOECredit)
- Public Referral: New player plays long enough earns your Outfit or Empire some credit.
- Friend Referral: a greater and more immediate SOE Credit reward.
Privacy Control (Spam control.)
Uses default controls of the social media website, I guess.
PS2 Media Album Manager
Outfit Interlink will manage one Album for you keeping it up-to-date (Uploading and Deleting). Will not share the album and individual photos unless Privacy Control allows it. Each image Tagged with your fellow Outfit Interlink users on [F],[G+],[T] and associated Outfit's Commlink social-app page if Opt-IN.

your Outfit
Preferably, I'd like social media of PlanetSide 2 to be an Outfit thing. How it would work? Well, here's an idea:

Outfit Commlink social media application
(for Facebook, Twitter & Google+, and an Open Source)
Community page.

Information
PlanetSide2 links, Outfit links, Custom links, other Social Media Outfit Commlinks links. Details, stats, and other stuff...
Battle Log
Somehow logs extraordinary individual events and mostly teamwork events from in-game, posts to the social media webpage and makes readers feel like something awesome is happening.
Outfit Interlink user Opt-OUT: The Outfit Commlink only displays their in-game alias.
Outfit Interlink user Opt-IN: The Outfit Commlink displays their profile name and link and their in-game alias associated with a new Outfit Interlink photo on their social media profile.
Referrals (Outfit earns Resource)
Public/Outfit Referral: New player plays long enough earns your Outfit or Empire some attrition. Even greater reward for your Outfit if new player joins your Outfit.
In-game navigator (Outfit Uplink)
Outfit officers and leader(s) can issue Events, Messages, PlanetSide 2 Promotions (for Referrals), and Outfit Recruitment (for Greater Referrals) from within the game.

in-Game
Outfit Uplink in-game navigator
(Remote control of the Outfit Commlink)
Community page.
This is the interface where your Outfit communicates with all integrated Outfit Commlink applications outside of the game on each social media website.

no, just NO!

Facebook is like some sort of new religion, sticking its nose in everywhere, trying to control everything. you have been brainwashed, you dont NEED facebook. its a farce.

Think of Facebook more as a new form of advertising media. If PS2 gets advertised to facebookers that like games, then that's more people playing it. And who doesn't like free games?

but its not just a form of advertising media, its 100% a method for monitoring, spying and steering the sheep of the world. telling you what to "like", what to "dislike" regardless if you think you have a choice or not, you are being brainwashed every second your on it.

social networking? try Social Engineering. and it has worked a treat.

I didn't hate the BF3 battlelog, but I never used the damn thing and I found the launching from a browser a pain in the ass. I would rather the developers focus on the game itself then maybe go into something like this if there is a strong enough want for it.

If SOE actually makes use of Steam as a requirement for the game then you basically have all the community needs right there. Excluding stats.

That is true, a lot of the things I mentioned are already integrated into Steam, it might make sense to make it a steam-only game seeing as Sony and them have a partnership with the PS3.

No, no, nn-n-nan- NO. All this social networking shit, as someone said above, is everywhere now. We don't need a goddamn facebook/twitter/youtube app in a game. Something like Battlelog, even though I hate it with a passion, is the furthest I could take. A dedicated PS2 site to upload pics/videos from a screencap button is fine. But leave it out of the game.

I hate Facebook and dont use it. But i still think there is merit init. Imagine posting huge battle pictures to hype the game to get your friends interested. Imagine if the interface has the Clouds short sample video recording, so you can hit a button and it uploads a video of you orbital striking a hot drop of 12 guys.

Remember, if these things dont interest you. Then you dont have to get involved, i know i wont. But i can definatly see the point in including it.

I would like to see something similar to Xbox's new beacon system, maybe on a station launcher.

- BigFish85 is defending Cyssor and needs members for his squad. etc.
