Two features I'd like to see for PlanetSide 2, to increase player's ability to control their weapons, is to implement features for burst fire and rate of fire throttling.

Rate of Fire throttling is the ability to increase or decrease the rate at which a fully-automatic firearm will discharge rounds. The intent is to help the player improve their accuracy, and to customize their gameplay experience to the fullest extent. In PlanetSide, I knew many players who used their mouse wheel to fire a MCG, because this effectively reduced the bloom and allowed for superior accuracy over long ranges. Instead of having to do such a silly trick to make the gun work better, the ability to assign a maximum rate of fire would be a great solution.

Burst Fire is another feature that would help to improve accuracy and ammo conservation. Many weapons in PlanetSide didn't really start blooming until after the 3rd, 4th, or 5th shots, and so players would often fire manual bursts. Depending on the characteristics of certain weapons, burst fire may be something that would improve the effectiveness of a fully-automatic weapon.

The two features do not have to be separate, either. Having different throttle settings for when a scope / ADS is in use, when the weapon is set to burst fire, and when the weapon is set to fully-automatic, would help a player maximize their ability to use their weapons effectively, as well as allowing for a degree of customization and personalization within PlanetSide 2 that has yet to be used in a meaningful way by most (maybe all) FPS games that currently exist.

Yeah I made a post (http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36593) about that a while back. Didn't get much attention. I don't think people care much for fire modes it would seem. Personally I like complex weapons with different fire modes to distinguish weapons.

Well, rate of fire can usually be controlled in a meaningful way just by controlled burst fire.

When you're forced to burst fire, even when it's just a temporary setting by the player, people get annoyed when that backfires and it gets them killed.

Burst fire is annoying. I am a pro at not firing too many rounds in video games by this point. Gimme dat full auto.
