What is Xen of Onslaught
Xen of Onslaught was formed prior to the release of the original Planetside. We started out as a smaller outfit with around 50 dedicated players and quickly bloomed into a much larger outfit during beta and into release. Xen quickly became one of the top ten outfits on the Emerald server using our effective military style communication and tactics during outfit assaults. Since Planetside, Xen of Onslaught has branched out into many other online games where our community has continued to grow and expand. We have always remained true to our roots and continue to use the skills, tactics and leadership that we perfected during our time in Planetside. We excel at building long term members and friendships and our community is a testament to that.

Play style:
Our primary focus is having fun while using structure and tactics to maximize damage to our enemies. We promote strong leadership and teamwork.

We are actively seeking members of the Vanu Sovereignty to help us crush the Terran Republic and New Conglomerate and conquer Auraxis in the name of the Vanu.

I doubt many of the members who are around still, besides Dance and Dash, would remember me (and it's been so long they probably won't either), but I was the 4th or 5th Member to actually join XoO before the Planetside Beta had even begun. Hanging out with Dash in mIRC waiting patiently for beta to start was always fun lol.

It's okay if voice communication discipline isn't something that you care about when dealing with multiple platoons. XoO was fielding multiple squads or Air, Armor and Infantry, order needs to be maintained with that many people.
Also, if such a minor thing as "tactics" aren't important to you I can understand. Not everyone likes to sacrifice some short term fun in order to help your Faction. XoO has, and will continue to make strategic decisions in Planetside when applicable.

I've been a member of this great community for almost 9 years. I was the Air Division Commander for XoO for a couple years back in 2003. I along with the other Divison Commanders were the 3rd in command's for the outfit. It's surprising to see how many old faces not only are returning to the XoO community from PS1, but to see some faces from the game I haven't heard from in a long time.

PhoenixDog was one of our legendary members back in the day. He was an amazing Reaver/Mosquito pilot and air tactician regularly leading platoon sized raids for the air division during outfit assaults. This monstrosity was later named "Pdogs Flying Circus". Now you also have to consider this was in addition to the infantry and armor divisions. If you want large coordinated and tactical combat this is the place.

The only thing you had to make sure of is that you were not in the galaxy if Pdog was flying :p.

Full disclosure though, Xen is not for everyone. This is a recruitment thread, yeah, but Xen has never wanted hundreds of blind applications. We have no desire to be the biggest VS Outfit out there, because we don't think that's a necessity to being the best.

One of the things that makes Xen great is its standards. We never, for example, send out random invites. Any Outfit that would except you as a member without any idea of who you are is not worthy of your membership. Random invites are like pre-aproved credit cards. Xen is a platinum card you have to apply for, but treats you much better if you qualify.

That being said, neither is Xen an elitist group. Xen doesn't have any "skill" qualifications because, in a game like this, everyone has something to contribute. If you want to participate in an organized assault (read: "play the objective") and can behave like a socially well-adjusted adult, then you meet our standards. That gets you in the door, a seat in my galaxy, and a brother at your side who'll be proud to save your skin or, failing that, meet you at the spawn pods.

Some people don't like working within a large command structure. They want to be in direct contact everyone they're affiliated with, to always be able to decide their next action for themselves, to be the only one calling the shots, or are simply only concerned with the moment-to-moment gameplay. That's all fine and reasonable. These gameplay styles do, however, preclude the large scale, organized strategic play that Xen engages in.

For those folks, please join another one of the fine outfits out there - one that fits your gameplay style. One cog of Xen's highly efficient war-machine is co-operation with other VS Outfits, big and small, to help serve the VS war effort as a whole. We co-operate with the big guys and make opportunities for the little guys. If you're a 200 man outfit we've formed a relationship with, we'll trust you to hold second front and provide you the support you need. If you're a 5-man group of buddies who really just like to shoot guys together, we'll be more than happy to have you tag along with our infantry division or simply inform you as to where the next big assault will be. Xen place the success of the VS as a whole over personal or Outfit glory.

Therefore, even if Xen doesn't seem like your style - keep us in mind, because we WILL matter and WILL be more than happy to lend you a helping hand when things heat up.

We are very big on VOIP communication. There are always people who say that they don't feel they have much to say, or are shy, or what have you, which is okay, but it's a bit of a necessity. Even if you don't plan to do anything but follow orders, it throws things off to have a few random people incapable of sounding off on a role call, reporting that they heard an order, that their sector is clear, etc. Just yes/no stuff, but it's important.

Keeping a large group effective is all about communication. Knowledge is power, as they say, and you need quality communication to circulate that information quickly. Everyone needs to be heard, yet you can't let anyone be drowned out. These are the reasons why VOIP is basically mandatory for us.

BTW, given dmg to tanks will be dependent on location of hits, do you think the same mechanics will apply to Infantry (headshots, bleeds, clipping limbs, etc) and what are your thoughts if it does/doesn't?

During open games, we don't tend to recruit purely off of the internet. We prefer to let people know about us, and then have them come in-game and play with us for a bit. It's both a better way to get to know someone, and a better way to introduce them to a new group. There's no "now you're in," with the ball left in your court to actually integrate yourself into the list of people on your GUI. If we invite you in, we're going to do so personally and with open arms, and then go out and play the friggen game together.

As that's currently unavailable, Teamspeak interviews are the way to go.

We demand a good bit of information about a given player's personal play-style during the interview process because we recruit individuals, not numbers. It's only fair, then, that the actual integration process is also made as personal as possible.

Thanks for posting a different leaderboard shot Miir. Some Vindicator on reddit had been talking trash based on their lack of presence on the top 10pop board. Yeah, turns out you score/mem still doesn't measure up.

I respect you guys, and several other of the old-school outfits, but XoO remains, pound for pound, the most efficient Vanu Emerald ever saw.

I've gotta say, on a more serious note, that I do feel Xen's community made me a good player. I didn't care about kills, or leaderboards, or any of that. All I wanted was for the world to turn purple. Yet, far more than that, the single thing I enjoyed most about the game was getting a group of infantry in/out of a hot spot in my Galaxy, and having 10 guys express their genuine thanks, congratulations, and appreciation of my hard work in coming to their aid.

No level up or item drop has ever meant more to me than any one of the innumerable "thank you"s I've received from Xen members over the course of my time in PS1.

Organization & discipline.
In the former case, we have a very well defined command structure such that any issues that arise can be efficiently addressed at any scale. Communication, during large organized play, is highly formalized. As a result, information can quickly be provided to exactly who needs it. By reducing/eliminating the time it takes to gather, process, & react to new strategic or tactical information, we become one 300 man strong machine, rather than 300 individuals with a common goal.

In the latter case, there are some very simple standards in place to prevent people from being disruptive of that organization. Though it might not seem like much, someone who can't clear coms, doesn't have a mic, can't properly utilize that mic, or simply has a disruptive attitude is a serious issue. They can become a roadblock in an otherwise efficient system, slowing the whole thing down.

Our goal has never been to have the most members, but rather the most people that we can maintain that level of efficiency with. I think that over time that goal has proven itself to be a greater decider of victory in Planetside than either numbers, individual twitch skills, or even individual strategic/tactical planning.

That efficiency is a force multiplier. Without it, your strength in numbers or highly skilled individuals won't be where they are needed most or get the support they need to be their most effective. Your clever plans will be lost in translation.

Really liked what I heard about this outfit, and the vanu in general. They're much more distinct than the other two.

Other two are more about manuveur warfare & the cold war style of warfare.

The Vanu are much different tactically and will feel refreshign because of it.

We're waiting to see what kind of early presence we have in beta and the restrictions the nda is putting on us.. But yes we entirely intend to do many videos within the outfit for both recruiting purposes as well as entertainment.

btw, our VA vs Snow event ended with a draw.

we got recognized as being a very hard kill, they kept hammering us and we fended them off as much as we could.

at the end of the timeframe, they called it quits and thanked us for the fight.
