SG MULTI-GAME ORGANIZATION

Sturmgrenadier (SG) is embodiment of combined arms, relying upon all three service branches to strike the enemy in large-scale, coordinated assaults. Armor, air and infantry are all part of the Sturmgrenadier approach to battle. Sturmgrenadier has the discipline and experience to oppose the mindless zerg push, and the strength to crush smaller and less effective opponents.

Rolling armor columns, devastating air cavalry, fierce air superiority fighters, and highly mobile and flexible infantry units are all part of our cohesive strategic and tactical gameplay. This is what makes our enemies fear and respect us:

“The first time I watched the Sturmgrenadiers put together a true combined arms mass assault on a base with coordinated pincer movements, heavy armor columns, and calculated air attack waves. Just amazing.” - Dave Georgeson, Planetside Producer

“If you play as NC and aren't a member of SG you're doing a disservice to yourself. It's as simple as that.” - BuzzCutPsycho, The Enclave, Leader

“If you are looking for a large organized and effective outfit on NC, you need look no further than SG. While we had a lot of small skilled outfits in NC Emerald, SG was our backbone of progress.” - Malorn, The Enclave, Executive Officer

Sturmgrenadier brings together a combination of leaders with real-world military and corporate experience, a command staff dedicated to making gaming fun, and a player base that is driven to work as a team to complete their objectives. When eight galaxies loaded with troops drop over a heavily contested objective, or when an armor column rolls through an enemy choke point with heavy air cav support, there is no room for anyone who isn’t playing with the team. If you enjoy fighting alongside friends and comrades to drive back the enemy, then Sturmgrenadier is the outfit for you! No matter how many Sturmgrenadier soldiers are on the battlefield, rest assured that every squad is operating on its own initiative to meet its objectives. Squads win battles, and Sturmgrenadier leads its squads to victory!

The Sturmgrenadier Way

Sturmgrenadier stretches across many games, but there is a common set of values that bind all Sturmgrenadier members together:

Respect; all SG members abide by the Sturmgrenadier Charter and the Code of Conduct. SG members do not disrespect, trash-talk, or otherwise insult other members or the gaming community at large. Our actions speak for us.

Communications; to fight as a team, SG members must communicate effectively. When you see 200 Sturmgrenadiers assaulting a facility, their communications are organized and coordinated towards winning the fight. Individual members are trained in the appropriate use of communication protocols for different combat situations, and commanders are coordinating with each other in real-time using our professional-grade, rack mounted Teamspeak servers. Communication and coordination is the key to victory, and it’s a lesson we learned long ago.

Camaraderie; Many SG members have been playing together for 5 or even 10 years. The command staff and the entire membership work to build high morale and a strong esprit des corps. SG holds assemblies in real-life, prize drawings and giveaways at the holidays, and works to provide a strong sense of family. When our members have fallen in real-life, we have taken the time to honor them in our own way. When our members have found great joy in their lives, we celebrate along with them. Our newest members find fast friends, and our veterans call one another family. This sense of family binds us together, more than any one video game ever could.

Discipline and Teamwork; Sturmgrenadier isn’t like being in the real military, but we are a team, and we train and play as a cohesive unit. SG command staff train members in every aspect of combat, from basic squad tactics to large combined arms strategies. When Sturmgrenadier takes the field of battle, we move together, work together, plan together, and have fun together. There are no super hero players or domineering generals in our ranks, only team-mates succeeding together.

Leadership; We play as a team, and every great team needs great coaches and play-callers. Sturmgrenadier commanders and squad leaders work together closely to develop battle plans that carry our members to victory. We promote from within, and everyone in SG is given the chance to show their quality as a commander. If you have the right mindset and skills, you could find yourself leading a squad, a platoon, and an entire battlefield. Being an outfit founder or veteran are not qualifications for command, so anyone can rise to the heights of leadership if they have what it takes. Our commanders aren’t chosen to lead because they formed the outfit or have been around forever, they’re chosen because they are the best suited for the challenge of command!

A Long History

Started in 2000 for World War II on-line, Sturmgrenadier was founded on mature players working together and it was this team first mentality that attracted players from all over the world to join. It was a natural progression for SG to look to Planetside as its next challenge and the ranks grew tremendously. From that point on, leaders within SG created additional opportunities for the current member base and have been able to recruit successfully for each subsequent game. Today, we have a presence in many online games. Whether it is a long standing games such as Eve Online and World of Warcraft, or the newest title like Guild Wars 2 (also in the planning stages like PS2), the core of our leadership system is the same: We recruit quality players and through the friendships that are formed, new leaders rise from within to carry on the traditions of team-first organized play.

Many of the members are coming up on their 10-12 year anniversary with SG. We have social gatherings around the Country and are well beyond your typical 'on-line gaming group'.

Yeah its been nice having so many people come back to us. We actually have 3 former Outfit Leaders all playing Planetside again right now. Planetside still is the greatest game ever created. If they can stay true to this for PS2 but improve upon the minor problems then PS2 might be a game we play forever.

July will be my 8 year anniversary since joining SG. I have played with the same group of guys for 8 years now, we have seen kids born, loved ones lost, and new loves found. We are more than an Online Gaming Syndicate, we are an Online Gaming Family. We have maintained 500-800 members for 12 years now. Its nice knowing you will always have people to play with no matter what comes your way.

Kilmoran
2012-04-17, 10:19 AM
Hard to be exact since the outfit is so old. It still has over 200 members and out event nights have been pulling in quite a few considering it has only been a week or so since we started up again. I'd simply say that the numbers haven't capped yet most likely and I certainly don't have any official roster information outside of PS 1 itself.

I'd say when we call for official operation nights we always run at least a full platoon.

During all other nights anywhere from a squad up to a platoon.

Since we're in other games as well, we're getting players tired of us talking about PS2 in our forums and want to see what this whole 'planetside' thing is all about. And, some of our older players are playing again just to get ready.

Pine here,

Been in SG since pre-beta PS ( joined just for PS). Still have my old PS beta disc(s) ( that's how they spelled it).

Shout out to WingedNazgul, Hamma, and all the well wishers.

What I like about SG, no drama and no baby-sitting. We are over 18 and we act like it. Gaming is my hobby, I do it with folks that want to jump in, move the map, and have fun doing it.

To those looking at outfits: the best way to evaluate us is to simply join a squad and try to keep up. We are on TS (private server), so it won't be easy. But if you follow us you will find we operate very different from your average "indy" squad. (that goes for most outfits, but we each have our own style)

Things that I always loved about PS:
Numbers baby! 133* 133*133 per cont
persistent map
troop transport/multi gun vechs

Things I am most looking forward to in PS2:
flight physics ( I am a Galaxy pilot by nature)
return of an outfit centric game
Hoping resources model makes it interesting

O_O SG! How did I miss this before...

Well, Markov/Emerald I'll still be staying loyal to NC. Just dropped an app to 666th for Markov, and I'd like to join SG for Emerald! I remember Nazgul, Malorn, plenty of others from back in the day. For those who don't remember me I was a CR5 back when we could actually use command chat to coordinate the zerg, before BFRs and before Core Combat. Whatever method of leadership specs they put into PS2 is where I'll be again, and I'll be sticking with my air cav / infil playstyle for the most part I think. Shoot me a PM...

Yeah... just trying to earn a few merits.. teach those interested in "The Way of The Shadow" and how to help the map move with a hand full of people armed with little more than wits and patience.

When SG gets on however... then we have the means to actually dictate a battle instead of merely influence it. The wait for PS 2 has been... in some ways... painfully happy.

Mauser101

Gelnika-

There is a $12 per year membership fee. The fee is waived for new members for the first 30 days. You try us on for size while we try you on for size.

The one dollar a month primarily pays for the bandwidth needs of the message forums and our TS3 server (currently have 77 players logged into TS3, no lag...pure awesomsauce) but also includes private servers we rent. We did not always have the fee but it was decided after much discussion and gnashing of teeth that it was preferable to spread the pain over several hundred members rather demand so much of the few who were paying actually rather large amounts out of good will.

Left over money from subs at the end of the year is normally distributed back as a new years raffle/TS3 party.

You are not joining a Planetside 2 outfit if you choose to join. SG currently supports 5 games as official Portals including World of Tanks, World of Warcraft, Planetside 2, Eve Online, Star Wars the Old Republic and our Social Gaming Portal. The last is made up of whatever games SG members are currently interested in at the moment. In Social Gaming there are a lot people logged in to Diablo 3 and the DayZ mod for Arma 2 is getting a decent showing. Over time portals rise in popularity and eventually die. WW2 Online (SGs first game), Lord of the Rings Online, PS1, Pirates of the Burning Sea and a few others all saw there time in the sun and faded away. Sturmgrenadier didn't go anywhere, though. A lot of gaming groups fall apart when their interest in a particular game fades, that doesn't happen with SG. Apart from a few players who either were kicked out or left for their own reasons most of the guys who were in SG when I joined during the PS1 Beta and those who joined shortly thereafter are still kicking around.

If you're interested you can fill out an application at http://www.sturmgrenadier.com/website/index.php?PageName=SYNDICATE&SubName=applynow_ps&SpecName=php.

edit: Dear Lordy, just looking at Aldman's avatar made me stop and actually do the math. I joined 9 years ago in May. The mind, it boggles. I was just a kid freshly out of college.

Thank you for the clarification. Years ago I would never have considered dropping a dime on membership into a dedicated gaming community, but having seen enough willy-nilly gaming groups (with often poor characters within them) rise and fall, I might actually consider paying to ensure a generally more respectful and active group of people to play with. I may give you guys a shot.

Yep, we're a private gaming club for adults, not a charity. Everyone decided to skip 1/3 of a starbucks coffee each month (yeah, they are getting stupid expensive) in order to have some top-notch hardware that won't drop you in the heat of battle. I've been in SG for 9 years as of April (you've got me beat by 20 days, Mauser!) and I've never looked back.

I just re-subbed to SG... other than my sub to PS, which I am only occasionally playing, I am not even gaming... I just cant see being without my SG fix daily.

While most of those posting here are crusty to the point of rusty... one of the great features of SG's model is that no portal is "tied" to a single persons personality. Which is to say that, while the PS2 outfit may be run by one person ( or a handful), over time those people can and will change.. and no its not just the old crusties swapping places... new fresh blood is brought into the mix.

think about it... lets say you really want to run a PS2 outfit.. but dont want to deal with the details of running a forum, a voice server, or even being the heavy and telling a member its time to move on... SG supports the portal commander so they can do what really matters... play the game! Hell, don't join SG to follow.. join SG and LEAD!

Good to see you guys are getting back in the action. You were the enemy, of course, but I always respected yalls outfit. I loved fighting you guys because I knew you were bringing the same kind of organized, professional game that me and my boys love. No scrubs. Sturm meant we were about to have a good fight on our hands.

When we start to learn more about servers, what East coast options are available, etc. we should really try to make sure Xen and Sturm can still butt heads like the good old days.

From mature players to fun games I have yet to experience anything more enjoyable then when I am playing with these ladies and gents!

I personally can't wait for PS2 to come out, you'll find me right in the thick of things with these guys. Overall I missed the chance to be with these guys in PS1 so I can't wait to enjoy what made SG great!

So to all you out there I simply have to say
If your blue and yellow I salute you fellow
If your purple and red just know your already dead
From skies above to our infantry below
SG will prevail our march will not slow
The map and its lands will fly high our flag
The Barney's and Redcoats will have little to brag
Our rockets and flares will light up the night
We hope you bring us one hell of a fight
But in the end just remember not to fuss
Because All your base are belong to us :D

Hope to see all you out there and can't wait to just get into he fray with all you! S!

If you play as NC and aren't a member of SG you're doing a disservice to yourself. It's as simple as that.

High praise indeed. It's always a pleasure fighting the Enclave.

I am in the process of looking for an outfit that would suit me,and that would have me ofc ;). I was wondering if you have any server you will play as your main or if you plan to conquer seeral servers in the name of NC.

I'm from europe but could see myself playing on a US server given there will be other europeans online during "my" hours.

This is sort of why I wish that they SOE would take a page from WWIIOL and just have one big server, or figure out a clever way to have servers around the world and just "shift" gameplay from one to the next as primetime marches around the globe... maybe for Planetside 3 :D

I was asked to post about our requirements:

1) You MUST be a team player first. No one cares how much you like sniping when we are moving our armor column out with air escort.

2) If you are in-game, you are with us. Again, no one cares how much you like sniping when we have 3 full gals ready to drop.

3) You need to be on our TS server. There, you CAN tell us how much you like sniping [except see #4].

4) You must follow orders. Love to snipe? We don't need snipers? You aren't sniping.

All that being said, our entire leadership in PS2 were recruits in PS1 and came up through the ranks. We take very seriously the enjoyment our members get out of our portals and want to make sure everyone understands that even if they are just a piece in the large SG machine, every piece is vital.

I'm sure we'll even have sniper nights if you would only stfu about it in our TS server. :D

Yeah... they totally cramp my style... I'm always like "I needs to stabs" and they are always like "No N00B we need to secure the hax!" and i'm all like "Yeah but i can stabs the hax.." and they are like "Wut?"

Seriously though... we work as a unit.. or several units. We drop our preferences the moment we are ordered to. We don't complain, we perform. Hone your head shots on your own time, or when it helps the objective. Same with my knife... i have many many times had to sheath it for SG and i gladly do so.

Hopped on PS1 last night. It was a blast. We held out on some TR and VS on a base for over an hour before we moved else where. Shooting from the wall with a Gauss rifle is a blast. Especially when you can wire-guide in your Phoenix on those pesky Lightnings that run around.

MoMCoO was huge undertaking. Directed and produced by Pympicus and ToSteve of Sturmgrenadier. It was actually featured in several Machinima print books around 2008-2009, and took years of man hours and months of time to create. It included both scripted footage and unscripted battle footage. It was as unique and ground breaking as the game of Planetside and was a amazing piece of Machinima.

It started out as a recruiting video and turned into something else, a story of Sturmgrenadier in Planetside.

We are already working on the next big thing, PS-2 and look forward deploying the weapon that SG became in PS-1 once again. So if you miss that sense of brotherhood, the knowledge that your squad members got your back, and the discipline of a unit with specific goals, check us out at www.sghq.com.

Yes Elixx, we've got more EU players now thanks to games like EvE and the other portals that have been created since Planetside 1.

If you're asking about SG playing on an EU server, I think that we will probably have an east-coast US server. This is a good balance between EU players and west-cost US players.

Of course, this is all just speculation...:D

Greetings all,

My experience with SG started with Planetside closed beta. What led me to join back then has continued to impress me over the years. I saw a large, organized, and skilled group that has a culture enabling gamers to carry that momentum to other games and even have an impact in real life.

Every game I play online now is impacted by SG. Knowing that you have dependable and expert players playing alongside you is a huge benefit. On top of that, there is always a dedicated command structure that allows people win within a system.

We have fun with events like the pink pigtailed gnome invasion in WoW and lightning events in Planetside. But we're also a competitive group - our forums are filled with theory-crafting and we participate in tournaments against other high quality teams.

Planetside 2 is the game a lot of gamers, and particularly SG since it fits our play-style, have been looking forward to for a long time. Good luck to all.

Nice update Lost!

I cannot emphasize enough about how there IS room "at the top" in the PlanetSide portal. I recall so vividly how Spoon said " not everyone can lead.. not everyone wants to" and thinking.. "what a bone head" ( circa 2003). But he was right, not everyone likes to lead.. in fact many many DON'T! What that means is .. yes Nooblett .. there is room for you. Of course wanting is one thing.. showing you can do it... thats another. Learning to be a leader is a free gift from SG... you get it just by being a part of the squad.

S! Enclave... its gonna be so different with yall on the TR side of the fence. I foresee some epic battles! Until C22 or Azure comes screamming in for attention... ahhh the 3-way love fest!

Now back to studing the new Galaxy handbook for PS2.. aka Flying Pigs 101

Wow, two squads of SG (not indys) on last night.. running armor, Lib bombing, gal drops... Good times! Lots of new guys on and they seem to be having drama-free fun! Aesir needs to meet Prophet.. they could tag team some Lib runs that would drive the enemy insane. Between SG, BL , and ST... NC was holding thier own and lettign the TR AND VS know NC is the power.

You would be amazed at the cross-over form WWIIO to PS. As to the "side" SG picks... it should be very obvious by now.... SG = Underdog

Waaa? I stopped playing WWIIOL mostly because Axis won 70% of the campaigns at the time, and it just wasn't fun anymore. You weren't the underdogs (unless you mean RL history). And I'd argue NC were pretty well-off in PS too. At least on Markov, NC dominated due to population imbalances for years.

BTW, for those new to PS... some things to point out about this picture:

Sturmgrenadier are the 8 maxes you see in colors other than green. The one that took the picture is also an SG max.. so at least 9. For each max, there are probably another similar number of non-maxs that will follow in also to support the crash. (medics, engy, and hackers)

Also looking at the chat box ( lower left) the Crash is being called for/supported by two large major outfits ( SG and 666th). The is a great example of how PS is differnt from small scale server play. It is also vastly different from solo play in PS. If you are looking for coordinated efforts which result in not only more kills, less deaths, and moving the map/making a difference.... but is really just MORE FUN.

Look into joining an oufit that can support this type of play.... look to Sturmgrenadier!

That's only on the NC though Ald! After getting shunned by you guys (*sniff*) a few CR5s and I created a little Outfit called Delta Triad which has 10,000,000 Outfit Points despite never having more than 60 members. ;)

Good fun event. SOme hiccups on start and well on the end. This was a fun event to me because it was outfit heavy and the whole thing was based on moving the map. This is just the opposite of most shooters, and its takes outfits to play this way.

As to the results, VS jumped into the middle and as outfits do.. they got double teamed but bad. IT was just good strats to do so. The TR had the event sewn up when they snagged 4 bases. The NC could go for second or compete for third. We went for second.

As for SG, we did what we could, by binding at the home base (tech) and keeping pressure on the VS. SG did not actually move into the dropship, as we saw that as a death trap, so we then pushed on the TR tech to the north and got quite the surprise when moved into Atar.

In the end the server crashed, and dumped many NC out of the game. Apperantly the server came back up, but few had stayed around to realize it. TR pretty much got a walk in the end.

I only saw good gaming on all sides. Lots of fun with gamming only as PS has it.

Aldman
2012-07-09, 08:28 PM
Yeah, I know that the VS are complaining that TR and NC "teamed-up on them", but they went straight for the dropship center, and the lattice led everyone right to them... no surprise that they were playing monkey in the middle from the very beginning.

Sturmgrenadier players did some nice work on Old Oshur. We made a nice diversionary play against Dahaka, hit the tubes and gen at Jamshid. I think that we would have taken Jamshid with just a bit more support.

It's good to know that our outfit will be the paragon of leadership when it comes to running an outfit with a solid ethos and organization. I know a lot of people are talking about the Old Oshur event and how it went awry but at least we can always breathe easy knowing that we play by the rules.

Just wanted to say what's up to all my new battle buddies. Just started with Sturmgrenadier, wanted to give a quick shout out to SG and offer my opinion to anyone interested in checking us out.

EDIT: FIRST: Be prepared to always have fun, if it ain't fun for you, you're doing it wrong!!!!

First: These guys have their &*$# together, high-speed, low-drag. They are a disciplined group however, that may not appeal to everyone. You'll want to make sure going in that you realize that running with SG means sometimes sacrificing a little independence to do what's right for the good of the squad, platoon, outfit, whatever.

Second: Know your role, do your homework and bring your A-game at all times. These guys are more than willing to help teach and train their members to be better gamers/ teammates. They do not hold hands... except while skipping with balloons in the other hands singing, la, La, la', la, la, laa........ (sorry 'bout shameless plug for NC with smurf reference)

Third: Be ready to step up if called upon. SG expects teamwork at all times. That means follow when following; take the reigns when a leader is needed. They don't care if you are the crustiest or greenest member, they will follow if you lead. The only "bad" decision is the one that's not made. I have to give props to the crustiest guys that will follow a green leader, complete the mission to the best of their ability, then offer guidance/ advice in an AAR to help that green leader become better.

Lastly, leave your e-peen and trolling at the door. These guys conduct themselves in a very polite and professional manner in each of the communities they participate in... a refreshing change from some of the other outfits you find out their.

Thanks Caldazar! That's probably the clearest review of what being a Sturmgrenader is like that I have seen in a long time.

It's true, SG is probably not for everyone, and we don't want to be. Sturmgrenadier members are mature, respectful, and have their acts together. We ask our members to give up a little independence in order to succeed as a team. We ask our members to learn from each other, because we are willing to teach them. And finally, we ask our members to also be leaders when they are needed. Planetside is a team sport, and we're working to make our team better every day!

And yes, we do have actual AARs after some battles. We're old-school. :D
