Notches new game is looks to be pure awesome. With space ships and computers you can program yourself.

Sure sounds interesting, I am mainly wondering how its going to play; 3D, 2D, as a person or a ship, etc.

If you look at the development status I think the lingo is for 3D engine. I'm not a games developer though.
Also this:
Each ship has a generator capable of producing a fixed wattage, and everything you connect to it drains wattage. A cloaking field, for example, might require almost all the power from the generator, forcing you to turn off all computers and dim all lights in order to successfully cloak.
Suggests you reside within a ship.

Surely a step away from minecraft, and a very immersive take on the genre. I wonder if the functions of your computer will run completely as they would on a regular computer or if it will more dumbed down and basic with menus and such.

It's assembly code, a low level language (I.E. NOT FOR BEGINNERS). People will have to make their own operating systems for the computers and build their own programs.
If your not into programming you can download an OS and some programs off of other people. Beware of virus infested software though.

f2p is a scam
I can see where he is coming from. A lot of F2P games havent been implemented properly. LOTRO for example is a F2P scam in my opinion, as pretty much all of the content is behind the paywall. but this is for another thread.

Over my head lol. I use computers infinitely better than I understand them and I'm not afraid to admit that :p

I suck at coding so I would be horrible at that piece. It's interesting though that people can release programs that others can use.

I think the reason Notch is going with a monthly fee is because he realizes he does not have a steady source of income. Sure, he's worth millions, but he's only released one game. If he doesn't have a steady source of income, he can't make more games.
This is pretty ambitious, but I'm not convinced I'll pay a monthly fee for it.

It's monthly fees for the multiplayer part the single player will be free (after buying the game). Cant really expect them to burden the cost of running the servers and staff. This isnt BF3 where they will sell the game for $60 and with guaranteed sales of millions.

It looks really interesting, but I normally play games to get away from programming for a while. Can't wait to see what people come up with though, maybe someone will program Von Neumann Machines that end up taking over the galaxy :)

I can see people trying to create Skynet or some other rogue AI (HAL?) in the game, if that's actually possible.
Anyway, I'm more curious than really interested by the game right now.
