I laughed when the Dust devs started touting "sidegrades" recently :)

This isn't meant to compare the two games, as PS2 is entirely different at its core, and far more impressive. Still, the video's worth a look. It's just humorous how badly they want to be Planetside 2.

I've been hearing a lot of people using the word lately in interviews. I think it's becoming a F2P buzzword.

Pretty hard to compare the two...

Unless you know how to operate a PS3 controller?

Haha. Planetside 2 is going to be the FPS World of Warcraft. It will change the entire MMO landscape for the FPS genre, and everyone will imitate it. There's a list a mile long of MMO's that feel like WoW. Planetside 2 is the next evolution in online games :-)

Bring on the mimicry. As if it would help.

I couldn't agree more. PS2 is gearing up to change the FPS landscape forever.

I hope so. Death to the small map focus, and bring on the large, persistent world MMOFPS. Provided of course that innovation isn't stifled by overreliance on the "persistence".

Other games will try to use Planetside 2's format once they see Planetside 2's success. The same thing happened after World of Warcraft, and no game in that genre of MMO has ever toppled WoW, even many years later. At best, the games can function in WoW's shadow.

Planetside 2 will be the same, overshadowing many copycats.

This simple console game cannot compete with the PC beast of Planetside.

The Dust devs must really be feeling the heat with PS2 in the works. So far as I am concerned Dust is a "sidegrade" to PS2. Dust is a cool concept, and the cross platform, multi title integration is nice, but PS2 is set to blow the roof off the FPS genre.

Because of how they build their technology, if DUST fails on the PS3, it is not all that difficult to port it to a PC with a new interface and control scheme. Because of how its actually physically running on tranquility alongside the EVE simulation. The only reason SONY is involved is because they cant connect a ps3 directly to TQ legally as they can with a PC client.

Don't think they don't have the balls to stand up against SOE with a pc port if they feel they need to. They definitely have the balls for it.

And actually, at this point, I hope they do it anyway.

Yeah, while Dust in no way compares to PS2, I'd still like to get my hands on a PC version someday. Seems odd to limit it to PS3, but I am a big fan of their push for cross-platform interactivity.

If all else fails and I'm not in the Planetside 2 beta by the time Dust is out, I'll definitely pick up a copy to check it out.

Check this out, that blog is worth reading. It aint mine, but I agree with his logic. By that logic, its quite possible that DUST might come to the PC. Because.. what other options will CCP have?

Them making it a PS3 exclusive was a hilariously stupid idea. I imagine once the PS4 is out they'll have little choice but to port it to PC, but who knows. Maybe they'll just shut it down instead.

I had a conversation with a few members of the CSM the other day and the short version of it was that while CCP has already signed contracts with Sony over it and they cant change it for now, it isn't out of the question in the future. It is likely that Sony did infact say it needed to be PS3 exclusive in order to protect other endeavors (PS2 lol) in order to sign the contract. Being that CCP is the new guy with consoles, they likely signed it because Microsoft wouldn't budge with their platform to meet the goals they had set out.
