I first saw this when The Yogscast did their alpha preview on this, but take a gander on the teaser trailer that was shown at E3

It's a FPS (first person shooter/slasher?) that pretty much is attempting real medieval combat. Definitely a game to look out for!

War of the Roses is a new IP that transports players back in time to the battle-ravaged, dynastic civil war era of 15th century England where ownership of the throne of England was brutally fought over between supporters of two rival branches of the Royal House of Plantagenet - the house of Lancaster (the reds) and the house of York (the whites).

Check out their website here (http://www.paradoxplaza.com/games/war-of-the-roses)

So it's like Mount and Blade, if the people who made Mount and Blade actually updated the game significantly beyond how it was when it was in beta ten years ago instead of making a few new skins and selling an "expansion" or "sequel" for $20?

Well that's cool.

It's heavily inspired by M&B but it's being developed by Fatshark.
I'm looking forward to this game, looks like it's going to be a right bit of fun.

I'm actually more interested in Chivalry, which in my opinion has a superior engine and combat mechanics.

Is there any gameplay shown anywhere?? this looks very interesting.

EDIT: I just looked at the website and the description says "from a third person perspective" I don't think this is an FPS set in medieval times.

If it really is third person all my interest is gone.

Why would making it third person be a negative? Fighting with melee weapons in first person is retarded. You don't have enough peripheral vision in first person for melee to be anything more than a clusterfuck.

It does go into first person view when aiming with ranged weapons, however like Warborn wrote it wouldn't make much sense to do that in melee combat.
If you want to see some pre-alpha footage then check out TotalBiscuit's gameplay.

I'd love to see someone do melee in first person and do it right. That is the only reason i'd be interested in this game. If it's a 3rd person action game I have no interest. If it's a fresh attempt at melee in first person then im interested.

I remember when I was around 9 or 10 (I'm 20 now) at school with my friends in like year 5 or 6 (UK) and we're talking about games, and sorta acting them out. One friend was all up for a dungeon kinda game, like diablo 2 (not sure if diablo 2 was out at the time) and he was going to call it dungeon wars and thats what we played each break time (i switched often from acting with the nerdy kids and playing goalkeeper) my game idea was to be one man in the middle of the battle, and you could be promoted to a sergeant and stuff... I never got that wish, ever. Then I saw on youtube that there was a Totalbiscuit WTF of War of the Roses. I was born and raised in Middlesbrough, which is close to York, and was involved in the war of the roses, hell my ancestors were probably in the battles there... (I'm a white rose man myself) so I knew what the war of the roses was.. when I opened and watched that video I had flashbacks going back 10 years to playing and explaining my game idea to my friends, and felt all giddy inside.... THIS WAS WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR! this is the game that i'd have made if I was a games developer! I am so goddamn excited for this game it isnt even funny. Between this and Planetside 2, id say 50/50 excitedness rating.
Anyway, I heard TB mention another game... "If you've had any experience with Mount and Blade you'll get on well here" so I looked on Steam (i'd only started using steam a few weeks at that point) and I saw it... downloaded the demo and fell in love with that too. It's my most played game on steam atm (about 300 hours)
I'm superstoked about this game. So so so much want!

ever played mount and blade in 1st person? awesome for archery, sucks ballsacks for combat.

Nope, I believe you.

Your missing my point. I'm interested in someone making a game that DOESN'T suck in First person with melee combat. If that's what this game is trying to do then I'm curious. If not then meh.
