I picked TR during Planetside 1 beta back in 2003 when I was 13 years old and I haven't budged since. Luckily for me their lore and look and playstyle also happens to be EXTREMELY fun for me as well haha

I hate all 3 factions, I just hate some less than others.

NC are a bunch of a teenagers who jumped into a war with no clear understanding of what would happen after the war.

TR are a bunch of old guys who are trying to apply a government that only worked in the past because the conditions were absolutely *perfect* so you end up with a something that will never work in this place.

VS are mostly lunatics who worship a dead alien. They are trying to drive the human race forward at the same time, though. Their constant pursuit of knowledge will most likely lead to the best future for the humans on this planet, so I will stick with them, though I still hate them.

I started out as TR apart of a very large outfit in 2003. After a while, that outfit split and made a division on the NC side on Emerald. I joined that division and didn't look back.

Today, I've been fortunate enough to be considered a good friend of a number of NC aligned outfits on Gemini, and going to another faction simply doesn't cross my mind as viable or worthwhile unless they all do.

I pretty much decided to go NC for the weaponry. I prefer heavy hitting weapons. I do however like both the lore and the look of the NC so the only thing that would get me to move away from them is if I prefer the Scythe to the Reaver

They do, but some people have given them a bad name. Not that that's any reason not to act upon them or debate them. In fact, I think we should be doing so more often!

None of the general team attributes of each of the faction weapons & vehicles has an overall advantage over the others, so as I have no preferred playstyle at anything less than the strategic level, and each faction has a lore I could adapt in my mind to be happy with, I made my choice on the look of the factions.
The TR have improved in leaps and bounds aesthetically from the first PS1, and the Vanu have become a bit too esoteric for me. The lego-block Ryanair stewards of the NC are, frankly, hideous. I also wanted to play in a more organised and tactical & strategic manner this time around, which the professional military theme of the TR suits best.

Lore factors into it a little bit, though I feel they haven't really expanded upon any of the factions very well yet.

Largest part of my choice is the way they look, which includes their weapons and vehicles. Unfortunately, none of them really stand out as much better than the others to me. Each has some good aesthetics and each has pretty lame ones.

I don't like the TR because they're a bit too oppressive for my tastes lorewise. And I don't like the bug eye'd goggles.

Don't like NC because their armor and colors are fairly bland. They should be better armored, look more bulky, and be more than just bright blue and yellow. The yellow is far too bright, too.

Don't like VS because their equipment this time around looks like something Nerf would put out. And the Magrider just looks wrong, especially the front gun. Teal is too bright too, just like the NC's yellow.

Yeah, I'm fairly critical. :P Still looking forward to the game but undecided what I'll go with.

To the OP: Great poll.

I picked Their weapons and vehicles. But, all 3 of those things are my determining factors ... along with good fun people with which to play. I would rate the poll choices:

1. Weapons & Vehicles ... because that is the feel of the game for me.
2. Looks ... because the visual element of games is very important to me too.
3. Lore ... I think they did a good job of making all 3 groups semi-badguys. But, there's just enough there for you to rationalize whichever faction you choose.

I hope in Beta there are multiple beta servers so we can make a character of each faction on 3 different servers and try out all 3. With the 1 unique jet and tank per faction, and lots of different faction weapons, trying this stuff out in beta will help a lot of us new to Planetside pick our faction of choice. :)

im choosing my faction because when i see what they represent and what they are fighting for i tend to agree with them the most, though i will say, being a TR, i did try the NC, (thats right, i rebelled too) even though the NC fits my playstyle better than TR (i can aim so i dont need lots of bullets) i still prefer the TR because of art style and lore, even though i know im a much better player as NC.

Mostly, it's the playstyle and the way the equipment works. In PS1, many folks thought that the game was never balanced (until the very end) because all the weapons were so different, but I was always one of the few who always said they were too similar. With PS2, I'm looking forward to customizing my stuff to do the maximum damage per shot, and who cares about armor and speed?

And on a lesser note, the style, too. In PS1, it was really mostly the Vanguard that made the decision there for me, since the armors were almost the same, but now, everything the NC has looks like something I'd design and build, and I'm loving it.

Seriously if I was asked why I'm playing Vanu it's because I like the color purple more than blue and red. They have the stupidest looking weapons, vehicles and max, but I'll be using the Liberator which is NS. That and VS is usually the underdog empire. Or that was the case when I registered.

I've been on the side that it's impossible to balance the empires and it's going to be hilarious in Planetside 2 if they try to make each empire drastically different. In PS1 I played TR for one reason: Mini Chain Gun

...then I fell in love with the bolt driver and liberator and faction equipment stopped mattering to me. NC is now the clear choice for me because all of the weapons and vehicles fit my style: fewer shots, more death, more BOOM.

I'm also a huge fan of the design for NC equipment, but design is not a deciding factor for me. Function comes first.

As for the lore... I don't really care. I just want to kill people with scifi weapons and see explosions EVERYWHERE.

After reading how current TR leadership was behind killing off the former TR President, Tom Connery, and set it up so that it looked like the NC did it, I really don't think I can get behind fighting for the TR now.

I'm going to play as the NC, not because of their ideology's or looks, but because of their weapons. In any FPS, my favorite weapons to use are shotguns, and the NC seem to have access to several of them, in addition to whatever shotguns (if any) nanite systems will offer to all factions.

I'm terrible at sniping and long range fighting in general at FPS games, though I do have a fair bit of twitch skill when it comes to close quarter fighting, so NC seems like a clear choice for me gameplay wise.

In PS2 I'm not sold on how the VS looks, but I really like how TR looks so, this time I'm going for TR :P

NC might be an ok empire with questionable weapons (better accuracy and better damage sounds like too much of an advantage but we'll see how it actually works in beta), but I'm not into blue and yellow combos... and they're rebel scum!

i think thats part of the beauty of planetside, there are no good guys or bad guys in the real sense of the word.

all factions are more in a a grey area.

My first shooter i ever played was unreal 2 xmp, it was sort of a space marines fps and first game i know of with vehicles in it. Have some very fond memories of that game and im really glad to be getting a chance to finally play a what i hope to be GREAT sci fi shooter again. Also a big fan of star wars battlefront series where most of the weapons were energy based.

I joined what seems to be a really great outfit too, GOTR who are VS and that helps guide my decision also.

A combination of reasons. I prefer the NC color scheme, and their aesthetic design. I enjoy their lore, considering they have everything from corporate financed battle hardened mercs to naive civilian turned solider revolutionaries.

I prefer their weapons style, it has a high skill cap imo with powerful but slow shots (So missing increases TTK by a lot more than with other weapons) and good accuracy to start, but high recoil and degradation (So you need to fire in bursts).

I'm not gonna lie. The first thing that drew me to NC back in the day was the color scheme - the blue and yellow just go so well together. Beyond that, I like their style. Their equipment is rough, utilitarian, boxy / square-ish in shape, and simply meant to get the job done. Straight to the point.

Philosophically speaking, I can identify with all three factions. The TR's desire for stability and unity; NC's desire for liberty and personal freedom at all costs; and the VS seeking to better humanity through highly advanced technology.

On the whole, the NC just speaks to me.

The biggest reason for me is probably faction loyalty and friends in the VS from the first game, but those aren't poll options and "Their weapons and vehicles" is a big factor for me as well, so I voted that one.

I like how the VS aesthetic the most in PS2, and faction colors are a big part of faction loyalty, but if it came down to a choice between looks and functionality, I'd take a blue and yellow boxy Magrider and Scythe any day. VS tech functionality is simply more my style.

I would probably have leaned a little towards NC *shudder* for the Reaver, since that was my favorite role in PS1, but considering that the Scythe can function in the same way as a Reaver did in PS1, and considering that I always wanted to fly a VS ES specific fighter in PS1, it's not contest. Scythe over Reaver every time.

The non-vehicle tech is looking pretty awesome too. I'll miss jump jetting MAXes, but the new Pulsar and Beamer and all the other stuff is looking like a lot of fun to use. Pew pew pew never looked so good.

Reasonings: Online Guild is going either Vanu or Terran Republic, which ever is more underpopulated, due to a decision from the leader.

Vanu not only has a tradition of being the most underpopulated faction, but they also wear purple spandex and shoot purple space beams for weapons.
Terran Republic would be the second choice if Vanu is somehow too popular.

Very glad to hear your recommendation. I was nervous bc I am new to ps and was having to select without any knowledge of outfits in general. I felt I made a good choice though with those guys.

Right now I'm torn between the TR and the NC.

I'm drawn to the NC because of their lore, the way their infiltrator looks compared to TR infiltrator, and also the 'quality over quantity' of their weapons and damage.

I'm drawn to the TR because of their overall looks, their fast Mosquito (speed is important to me for the fighter planes).

Now that I write it down I'm probably more drawn to the NC, but I'm really worried the Reaver will be outmatched in the skies.

However, the TR is all fascist and imperial and I think I'd rather be with the rebels.

Vanu is just goofy.

Sticky mod got over ruled by another mod because it was creating nonsensical polls, allegedly.
Which is incorrect, the nonsensical polls existed well before the sticky.
