Any idea if it will be possible to, for example, snipe enemies out of Liberators and such? Or off quads, etc. That kind of thing. Not a big deal, but it'd be cool.

I remember this was asked during a Q&A once, it was a "No" with the caveat that it might be possible for open vehicles like ATVs.

Okay, sounds good.

Definitely needs to be possible for open vehicles like ATVs, but you gotta admit, if you can find yourself next to the window of some other vehicle that has a window where you can fire your weapon 6 inches away from the driver's head, would suck to not be able to get him.

Well they make those things out of bullet proof glass for a reason.

It's a nice feature, and I like it in games like Battlefield, but simply given the number of players and the relatively slow speed of the Galaxy, it would be detrimental to the gameplay. If this was to be included in the game, it wouldn't be soldiers dropping from the sky, it would be un-piloted Galaxies.

I'd really only like sniper rifles (preferably bolt-action) to be able to penetrate the glass on air vehicles. I don't want some guy spraying my Galaxy with his chain-gun and end up getting a lucky, random hit on the driver and score 12 kills.

I think being able to kill people through vehicle windows would be awesome, especially air vehicles. But I can see why they would not want to add such a system.

It's probably not glass, but some superhard transparent material.

The Vanu don't use forcefield cockpits, do they?

To the others mentioning it, Higby has said that with open cockpit vehicles (ATVs and after launch Buggies), you WILL be able to shoot the driver. As others have mentioned, closed in cockpits with windows (any Air vehicle and Sunderers) was a no atm.

Ah yes, because bolt action's do more damage.... :p

Yeah I'm pretty sure the cockpit glass or whatever material it is would be strong enough to withstain a bullet.

If not, the stress from taking flak or any other damage would shatter the canopy. You'd be flying around with either no canopy or a shattered one that won't let you see.

To draw a comparison, a .50cal from a Ma Deuce won't go through a fighter cockpit canopy. So it's not beyond the realms of credibility that vehicle windows will be tough enough to resist the biggest small arms available in PS2. Not, of course, that "realism" should be allowed to get in the way of good game play, but obviously, one-shotting 12-15 people is hardly going to get considered "good game play".

Definitely not for Sunders and Airplanes thats for sure, they'll have a hard enough time with all the AV and AA, they don't need to give every sniper and machine gunner in the game the ability to easily take them out, it would just utterly destroy the balance for those aspects of the game.

ATV's have so little going for them to begin with that it would make little difference in their average survival time, they explode when they hit a bump wrong as we all saw.

Also what in the world is a Ma Deuce.

An alloy stronger than ALON with micro-tubules that feed reserve nanite repair goo into its damaged areas... the glass may be tougher to destroy than the metal armor.

Dunno if that's how the lore will say it works, but I'm sure we will have stronger glass in the future, its probably just going to be really heavy too. Maybe 6" thick synthetic diamond, that seems like it should be able to stop a bit of firepower.

Ma Deuce is the nickname for the M2 .50 cal machine gun. M2 = Ma Deuce.

It would be a fun perk to be able to unlock AP rounds for snipers. I do understand the concern though of pilots getting shot out (BF3 choppers), but there are those (rare) situations where you get that one chance, and I wan't to be ready for that.

At the end of the day though, I don't really care...unless I'm on the receiving end.

While it might work in games like BF3 given the lower player numbers, and the fact that vehicles such as jets only contain one person, I'm rather uncomfortable with the idea of snipers being able to essentially one shot 12 people because he managed to shoot the driver through the window. Also, galaxies are slower moving, making them easy targets as well, so it wouldn't be hard to do repeatedly if you have decent aim.

It would be stupid, it sucked hard in BC2 where you could pew players out of their apaches with a secondary, it ruined the game balance with players vs vehicles until it was patched, noone used helicopters except for newbies that soon would realize they were worthless.

People, seriously? You want to take out the heavily armored vehicles with the lightest class in game?

If you want to fight off vehicles, deploy mines or get AV. Plenty of options for both.

This is a stupid options in any game, the above posted video just shows how ridiculous it is.

Besides, the only vehicle in game with no bullet proof windows is the Flash, you think the devs should waste time on this feature just for that?

Also, once we get buggies, I would really hate to get my driver shot by one of the 100 snipers on the hill in the middle of a deadzone and so would you.

loved this in other games. mainly battlefield. if it was to be implemented the only thing i would say is it should only be high powered heavy cal weapons. i.e a 50 cal sniper rifle. i am a bit of a git for shooting pilots out of choppers in battlefield. well any vehicle i can tbh lol. i love seeing the vehicle go out of control when the passenger is wondering what the hell is going on lol.

While enjoyable, I don't think it's a great idea. Pilots should not be able to be shot out of closed cockpits.

Open air would be fine for me.

And while very very impressive it's not something I want to see in Planetside.

Aye I think the lore makes it perfectly reasonable for cockpits to be bulletproof.

It makes sense to be able to snipe pilots in a game like BF3 as a single helicopter is able to make more of a difference than a single attack aircraft in PS2. So unless it's for poops and giggles I don't see any reason to allow it.

Curious: why not? They dynamics of setting up a tripod-mounted weapon firebase and maneuvering from that could be interesting, just for starters.
