View Full Version : Can the Vanu hold their own in direct combat?

New player here. Contemplating which faction I should join. I'm deciding between the VS & TR, but leaning toward VS for their tank (loved the Nekomata from BF2142). However, I've been reading that Vanu are more stealth & precision than the other two factions, and that kind of turns me off to them since I prefer direct combat a lot of the time (though I enjoy speed and flanking as well, my main class in TF2 was Scout and I enjoy Medic\Assault in Battlefield).
My question is, how heavily do the Vanu favor subterfuge? Is it possible to be a grunt in that faction as easily as the other two, or am I gimping myself by not being a stealth class?

It's just as possible. All factions are equally capable.
Though it's been supposed that the factions are most potent in their default settings at:
TR: Blitzkrieging
NC: War of Attrition
VS: Precision Strikes

of course, although not all the time. this applies to all the faction because there are so many things you have to take into account. such as who got to shoot first, who is more accurate, who is better at dodging bullets/lazers. also the classes, but i assume your talkinga bout an even match like light assault vs light assault. of course i have never played the game but this is logical. it really matters on which player is better. i dont know if the different each faction's classes have different mechanics or specs, but if they do, im sure it would even out. you dont have to worry about anything. the stealth aspect that went along with the vanu sovereignty is really because their showcase class is the infiltrator. in summary, you dont need to worry, im sure they will make a VS light assault just as good as NC or TR light assault.

Thank you for the invite, but I tend to like to learn a new game on my own (as in, with random pubbies, not lone-wolfing heh) before attempting to join a clan. You know, have a handle on the game to avoid bogging others down. Though I will definitely keep your outfit in mind when the time comes. :)
As an aside, how is lag comp handled in this game? I'm from Hawaii, and typically I can't get less than 90 ping even from a server located on the west coast. Is this something to be concerned about?
From what i can tell the VS have trouble changing fronts or providing multiple fronts.
If the VS get side swiped by the TR for example then its lights out. or if the NC do a head-butt on their front its lights out. the VS are good at fast and sneaky.

Do your research, this isn't accurate.
Would you say the damage reduction over range makes the VS excel at close/mid range, or does it just not make that much of a difference? It seems like TR might be more suited for close quarters with a spray and pray approach...
I have been considering all factions, but at the moment I am liking the looks of the Scythe and the VS tank, making me lean towards VS.

Damage Output is the same, except for Vanu which have other advantages mitigating their lack of power at long ranges, such lowrecoil no bullet drop and extreme bullet velocity.
Spray and pray might be the best if you don't have clear aim or if you plan on sustained fire or if you simply like rate of fire and clip size which is very handy against many targets at once, or when you dont want to reload each 5 seconds.
with NC you MUST have clear Aim with certain weapons like pistols, also each shot you miss with an NC gun will have bigger impact on the TimeTtoKill a target

The VS have projectiles that travel extremely fast and that are extremely accurate. The scythe and magrider are particuarly interesting as well.
I have done my research.
Years of play and hundreds of Vanu under my boot. ^_^
But thats just what I observed. They are all lasher noobs anyway

direct combat vs. subterfuge is more a class vs. class thing than than a faction vs. faction thing
