Why PlanetSide?

Hello!
A lot of games have some sort of lore or gameplay reason to why there are called the name they are called.
However, I have failed to find such explanation as to why PlanetSide is called PlanetSide?
Can someone give me a heads up or state the obvious?

It's all in the lore, if you care to do a bit a bit of research. Oh well, if you insist:

NC guy: "Our max is clearly the best!"
TR guy: "Aw hells no, TR max FTW!"
VS guy: "Puhlease, your maxs aren't fit to lick our max's taint."
NC guy: "*Sigh* there's only one way to settle this... lets take this shit Planetside!

Because nobody is on the ships now, calling it "ShipSide" would just be silly, now wouldn't it?
