Yesterday Matt Higby posted a status update on Development and frequency of game updates.
Hey all -
As 2014 starts I wanted to give you all a quick note about some changes we're making to the way the game is updated. Over the last few weeks we have been reorganizing our internal build and development processes in order to allow us to expedite builds to live with the goal of updating the live game more often and more regularly. I'm really excited to announce that starting next Wednesday we will begin doing weekly game updates!
What does this mean for you?
Well for starters, it means we'll be more rapidly respond to bugs & balance issues in the game without having to rely on hotfixes as much. We'll also be able to release new content more frequently and consistently. Each individual update will be smaller and more focused, with fewer moving parts that can break, which we hope will greatly decrease the number of bugs being introduced when we update. This doesn't mean that we're not still working on bigger features and larger content pieces, we definitely are and they'll be slotted into the weekly schedule as they're ready to be released. As part of this change we are also going to be updating and playtesting on Test server a lot more often in the future, as always, your playtesting assistance and feedback on the test server will be greatly appreciated.
One final note, the first couple of these weekly updates are going to be a bit smaller than what you can expect to see later on, as we're still shaking off the holiday cobwebs and getting used to the new development processes.
We've got a really terrific slate of new features and content lined up for 2014 that we can't wait to get out to you guys, it's going to be an amazing year for Planetside 2.
Thanks for reading, see you on Auraxis!

Earlier today John Smedley posted some information regarding their recently announced changes to premium membership. Just a short time ago he posted another update revealing possible changes as a result of community feedback.
Thanks for the feedback. We listened. Here are the basics of our revised plan. Please note - we have not had the time to do estimates of the work involved, and also we're continuing to listen. so this isn't baked just yet. Do not expect that this is all going to happen immediately. We plain don't know yet. we're doing that meeting tmw.
1) We're lowering the price of All Access to $14.99
2) We're going to make it so every subscriber to all our PC games an all access member. Basically there will be one SOE membership for our PC games. Please note there are some minor restrictions around our kids titles (simply put - if you're a 12 year old who signed up for FR you won't have access to the adult games so we'll likely leave the lower priced kids offerings as separate subscriptions for under 12 for the same low prices).
4) we are going to be giving our members a 10% discount in our marketplaces.

Yesterday evening SOE announced changes incoming to the PlanetSide 2 Premium Memberhip program. Instead of monthly Station Cash players will now be able to choose one item worth 2000 SC each month.
The week of February 3rd, 2014 we will be making a very important change to the Premium Membership level in PlanetSide 2. The current benefit of receiving 500 Station Cash (SC) monthly will be replaced with a new program that allows you to select one single item valued up to 2000 SC each month. Nearly all items within the games’ Marketplace will be available for this selection. Players Studio, bundles and additional exclusions may apply. This new benefit must be claimed each month that you are a member as it will not carry over to subsequent months.
Today SOE is releasing PlanetSide 2 Performance Update 02 which includes a large batch of Performance Updates and even more Balance updates. Everything from Vehicles to Rifles were touched and even a few holiday updates here and there.
Esamir Object Optimization. We optimized the number of unique objects, overall object count, and polygons per object on Esamir. This will give players the same environment based performance increases they see on Indar.
Significant changes have been made to infantry and vehicle balance. These changes are listed in the last sections of the patch notes and are over 10,000 words.
Over the next few weeks you may come across some snowmen scattered across the frozen wasteland of Esamir. These jolly and harmless fellows can be blown up for a nice chunk of XP, and, if you can light up enough of them you may earn a special reward. Also, keep your eye out for a rare blinged out Golden Snowman who gives a very exclusive reward. If you see one, make sure you get it before your squadmates do!

After many months of work and testing Performance Update 1 is currently being pushed to live servers! There are a massive amount of changes which you can check out here on our Wiki. Here are a couple of bullet points:
- Refactored game rendering to better utilize multiple CPU cores. The same has been done for UI rendering.
- Optimized the CPU cost of some purely aesthetic physics objects
- Added adaptive complexity levels for physics simulations based on current client performance
- Disabled redundant physics processing between remotely-simulated vehicles
- Improved simulations between complex compound shapes, primarily vehicles
- Sound emitter optimization
How Nanoweave will function soon:
- Nanoweave will no longer increase the player’s health pool. Instead, it will apply a percentage damage resistance against infantry small arms and rapid-fire vehicle secondary weapons only.
- Damage sources not included in the above, like explosions, will no longer be modified by Nanoweave Armor.
- Nanoweave will no longer resist headshots. Against any weapon. Against the applicable weapon types, max rank Nanoweave will remain the same strength as it is now (excluding head shots).
Discuss the upcoming changes here.
ProSieben and Rock Paper Shotgun are organizing a "Nanite of the Living Dead" event on the Miller server! The event starts on the 30th of October, starting at 20:00GMT (21:00 CET. Check out the event's YouTube video below.
Venture Beat has posted an interview with John Smedley who reveals that a 16 year old Player Studio contributor has an $8,000 dollar check on the way.
He doesn’t know it, but a 16-year-old PlanetSide 2 fan is about to get an $8,000 check from Sony Online Entertainment. And all he had to do was contribute content to PlanetSide 2 — something gamers have done since the dawn of PC gaming. The money is part of a program that’s designed to reward players for building high-quality content, says SOE president John Smedley. The goal is to help new games like free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter PlanetSide 2 close the content gap with competitors like World of Warcraft, which have a significant lead in terms of story content and features.

Ryan Elam has posted an update on the recent Optimization Efforts. We should see Phase 1 of the Optimization patch on the Test Server within a few days!
To answer the most painful but obvious question, we are hoping to have Phase 1 of OMFG on Test servers in the next day or so, and Live around the end of the month. I want to make one thing perfectly clear, however. We will NOT put this patch live in a hurry. We want to smooth out any rough edges and get the stability BETTER than Live. Only then we will feel confident in putting it on Live. We encourage you to come to the Test server once this is up, check it out, and provide feedback.
Read the full thread here where he touches on many of the different changes that have been made. He also reveals you can get your hands on a free three day boost by logging in to test!
