I hear what you're saying, and some games definitely do it wrong (I'm looking at you, Dark Souls and Dead Space...).
However, if the ragdolls are weighted properly and affected by various forces realistically, I think it will add some really nice effects to large-scale combat. It just makes sense to see an enemy go flying when he steps on your landmine, or for a tank shell's explosion to throw a soldier into a nearby tower wall.
Do we really want a modern-day shooter where you detonate C-4 and the player standing right next to it just grabs his chest like he got shot, and crumples into a heap with a canned death animation?
