I need Ramz0rz

Ok, What memory should I get for the AMD 64 system I'm putting together?

I need DDR400. Keep in mind that I'm not into overclocking and bs like that. I don't want pretty lights and crap. I just want a Gig (2x512) of low cas latency, speedy ram that will work when I plug them in. 3... 2... 1... GO.

Bah, yea if you want some cheap ram that stuff will do. No way I would ever call cas3 low latency. 2.5 atleast, if not 2.

2 512 sticks of corsair xms xlpt for 2-2-2-5

If the price doesn't worry you to much.

Thanks guys, I found some cosair sticks at cas2 for midway between the shitty cas3 ($150/pair) and the uber-blingy ($350/pair). I think they were corsair, anyways, I'm set.

This is getting fuckin' expensive.

I suggest that for your Mobo. Bit more expensive, but you DONT wanna go cheap on the Mobo.
Corr has it, so any questions you can ask him.

I looked at that one, but I heard the nForce3 chipsets were a little glitchy with the agp. Ofcourse, that was when they first came out, and I'm sure it's been corrected.

I've just always seen good performance with via.

What exactly makes that board $40 better? Explain it to me like you're selling it to me. Use communist MSI propaganda.

I would actually go for this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-498&depa=1

You can of course trust ASUS with motherboards, and I'll let Rob explain why nforce 3 roxx.

That Asus board looks nice, but I really didn't want to spend that much. I'll miss my trusty P4B

Damnit, someone needs to tell me whats so freakin' special about the nForce3 chipset.

Nothing honestly, that MSI Platinum board is junk, I RMA'd the one I had after two days. And stuck with my older MSI FISR board.

This board here is pretty decent, and won't cost you a fortune.

This Epox board I hear is good, and killed with features, but doesnt overclock well, but I personally have no experience with it.

Everything else is fairly good, i dont like the case you've chosen, but that just not my pick. When it comes to teh memory, dont let anyone fool you, the difference between 2.5 and 2 isnt noticeable. Actually, unless you are doing soem serious overclocking, and lots of bench tests, you more than ikely wont see shit of a performance difference when you change memory timing.

EDIT: Ditch the heatsink, will link one later, time for work.

Ok, first forget the KT800 chipset. Nizzooww. Man what a POS. Its clock lock does NOT work. Meaning you cannot lock the pci/agp speeds. Meaning no tweaking pretty much at all. Also, hose on soltek. They are trying to come up out of the dumpster, but they still got a long way to go before they earn a good rep.

That Asus nf3 is defintely very very nice. Also very exp. If you have any interrest in gigabit lan, its defintely the way to go. If your wanting affordable, and GREAT value get the Chaintech NF3 250. Its well reviewed and respected for its price.

Now if you really want via, the KT800 Pro's aren't to bad. Atleast their clock locks work. Also mb performance is close to even with most of the nf3's. The MB does have an affect on how overall fast your system is. Also the quality of the chipset and manufacturer will have a direct affect on how long it lasts and how many problems you have down the line.
