New gaming PC, £1000 budget, need help

Hi all,

Looking for some help! Noticed my last visit here was in 2004, wow, long time ago :P

1. What is your budget and does that include shipping/taxes?
Around £1000, yes included shipping/taxes, could go over a little if really needed...

2. Where do you live?
UK

3. What do you need this computer to do (like gaming, Photoshop, and so on)?
Gaming

4. What parts will you need for the computer? Please list what parts specifically.
Graphics Card
CPU
Motherboard
Solid State HD for speed
Big HDD for storage, like 1TB
PSU
CPU cooler
PC Case
RAM

5. Are you reusing any parts for this computer? If so please say what parts.
DVD-RW

6. What kind of monitor/resolution do you have or want to get to use for the computer?
I've just bought a 23" BenQ LED, this is separate from the budget

7. Do you have a legit OS? If so what OS and is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
I have legit WinXP, 32bit, will get Windows 7 64 bit? excluded from the budget above

8. What are you looking for the motherboard to have feature wise? Like SLI, Crossfire, Firewire, USB 3.0, Sata 6.0 Gb/s, and so on.
Not too fussed about this stuff... what ever you thinks best for my price range!

9. Any plans to overclock the CPU or GPU?
Maybe, don't know that much about overclocking, did it about 8 years ago on my current system a bit, so if it hasn't changed to much then maybe yeah.

10. What time kind of time frame are you planning on ordering these parts?
I want to order asap, I've been told to wait for a bit though, until Ivybridge is released as that'll bring prices down a bit.

Thank you in advance, I'm glad I found this forum again, this is just what I need. I don't have a clue after 8 years of not keeping up with hardware!

Re: New gaming PC, £1000 budget, need help

I swear I've been doing more UK builds then anything else recently. I need to get a £ on my keyboard.

MSI HD 7970 - £379.99
Intel Core i5-2500K - £167.99
Corsair Carbide 500R - £92.99
MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 - £86.99
Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D 1TB HDD - £84.98
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB SSD - £119.99
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - £59.99
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler - £26.99 (Out of stock currently)
OcUK Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 - £23.99

Total = £1,060.39 with tax and shipping

I changed the build around with a 7970 and a 128GB SSD for the same price as the first one I did. A lot better bang for the buck IMO. If you want to stay at £1,000 you can drop out the 7970 for this 7950.

Is the monitor you got 120Hz?

Thank you Goku for the reply, appreciate it.

Just wondering if it's worth spending the little bit extra and getting the nvidea..

If you are interested in 3D gaming you probably should just due to that monitor supporting the feature. I think the 7900 series is having issues with 120Hz monitor at the moment too.

Yeah, I'll get an Nvidea then, will have a propper look tonight and maybe order the parts..

Do you think it would be smarter to wait for Ivybridge to be released?

The release is about 1-2 weeks away. Are you interested in the 3570K (2500K IB equivalent) or are you hoping for a good deal on the 2500K? Either way I guess you can wait unless you need the system now. The 2500K isn't going to be delisted the second the 3570K gets listed anyway. I think they should be the same price too.

I was hoping for a price drop, but might just get the IB if the price isn't that much different. I can wait a couple of weeks, no rush

Yeah, went a little bit over original budget but happy with what I got, it's all being delivered on Saturday too

Only just noticed the CPU cooler is still out of stock, will I still be able to setup the system? Stock fan?

OEM doesn't come with a fan. Not good. How much you want to spend on a CPU fan?

The Evo is a great value that's why I put it in the build. If you want To order a smilar performer look at the scythe yasa or thermalright venomous x. If you want something really new check out the corsair h60. You can get this all on overclockers.

If you want the evo you can get it here for a similar price http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...-CPU-Cooler---

Goku, you wouldn't go with an all copper CPU cooler?

Sure it's twice as much, but doesn't copper diffuse more heat then aluminum?
