I',m not sure what this is exactly. I've head it on this site and I'm assuming it's a talk system but I really don't nkow. Could someone verify what it is for me?

It's an in-game voice communication system, just like Roger Wilco.

I have a Plantronics headset with a mic and it's great. I recommend using a headset because it's pretty difficult to lean over and talk into the mic in the middle of a battle.

I don't use a headset, I use a mic on a stand. I have no problems (I use Teamspeak2 for JumpGate). I've never had anyone say they cannot here me over the noise of my speakers either.
