[Rant]Dr Holloway, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Media

People die. Many people die daily. Some of these people die in horrible ways: violence, accidents, war, etc. Just as bad, some people are kidnapped, or go missing. The worst feeling, I've heard, is the uncertainty. While tragic to know that a beloved has died, it provides closure.

John Doe can walk down the street, get run over by a car in a drunken hit-and-run, die, and he'll get a mention in the local nightly news.

Natalee Holloway can go missing in Aruba, and the media pretty much has a collective orgasm. The story has everything: a foriegn and tropical locale, a damsel in distress, Keystone cops to fumble in the investigation, it's like a fucking episode of CSI: Miami. So they pounce. Just like they were intelllectually circling like buzzards over William Rehquist when he was ailing, speculating who would replace him.

I wouldn't be posting this if the case faded away. But IT DOES NOT. You can't turn Fox News on without hearing Ms. Talks-Between-Teeth (Greta van Susteren) whistline between her teeth as she talks about the "latest development" in the Natalee Holloway case, which ranges from "Joran van der Sloot arrested" to "Media bitches, so Dutch Marines have to aid in the investigation despite the fact that it's not their job" to "I think Deepak Satish just took a crap".

Sorry, I DONT CARE. There are much worse things going on in other parts of the world than to dwell on one person missing in Aruba. Sex offenders strike again and again and get shorter sentences every time, new developments in the War on Terror, the hijacking of Venezuela by Hugo Chavez, et cetera, et cetera. But no, we must go live to Aruba every night to check up on the bowel movements of the local cops. The media has milked this story to no end. Let it go already. Just tell me when they find the body (you're kidding yourself if you think she's alive).

You have to remember news isn't just reporting the news anymore. It's about money. It's a business now. It's all about reporting what they think poeple want to see so they can get as many viewers so the then can get as much money from advertisers.

Cable news(and more and more, local news) is not there to inform you of anything.

It exists to sell commercials(and other advertizing). This story keeps peoples attention and brings ratings up because of the preferences of this country's population.

The independent media isn't any better, by the way. Any retard can make a blog and act like he owns the place. Most blogs are heavily biased with op/eds anyway.

I step outside after posting the above wonderful comment to get a yogurt or something. My dad is watching Fox News, and guess what O'Reilly and Geraldo are talking about? The Duke Rape case.

There is no case.

At this point, the media as a whole is simply making lives hell for these players. DNA tests exonerated them all. GTFO. Admittedly, I guess talking about this case is OK, but only because it's not months old. The media needs to stop fanning the flames.

Yea the Media is really starting to suck. What really pisses me off is our local news station something bad happens and they have to make a fuccking catchphrase for it or they need to use all sorts of gay references.

If its a baseball story they use BaseBall terms for every part of their fucking story. It pisses me the hell off and I have written them on numerous occasions. Why don't we just report the fucking news? not add your own writing spin to it.

I too dislike the stylized little headlines and what not. One reason I never watch news in the morning (Sportscenter is the only news I need). All of the morning shows (Today especially) are absolutely horrible about that.

stylized headlines have always been around. go see if your local library has some really old newspapers. or I'm sure the internettels has some.

its just with todays technology the 'spin' is a lot more aggresive and noticable.
