Well im making a website for my CAP Squadron (www.capnhq.cap.gov) and i wanted to put like member info up but i only want members to look at it so i was going to make a user registration for the members so they could look at it without worrying about like visitors and guest looking at. Basically thats what im trying to do

its a lengthy, difficult task, involving a database driven website. best idea is just to have the members section on a forum like this, add your outfit mates to a group and only let that group view the forum.

Well do u know where i can get a FREE forum. If you could give all the URL's of all the websites you know so i can look through all of them.

EZboard, slow as hell, full of popups, but free. Or www.google.com type in Free Message Board and see what you get. There's a difference between asking for personal preferance and not doing research for yourself. You should probobly take a look at some for yourself, then ask for preferance, as you can compare with others you've seen.

If you can get a little bit of cash per month all kinds of possibilities open up for you, these boards are the best i've seen (steelwarrior.xwarzone.com uses them too, i believe) fast, no popups, lots of tools and options.

But take a look for yourself, i believe you'll be surprised at what you can find out there.

Geez, I ask for someone to give me URLs instead i get ppl bashing on me with search engines. While i thank the one person for giving a URL i found a pretty good one. And if anyone else feels like they want to send me a URL of a search engine write it down and send it to me via shredder. Seeing how i dont spend more then a few minutes on the computer everyday i wouldn't have time to look for a good forum. so thats why i asked ppl.

sorry if i came off as hostile, wasn't meant that way, just giving some suggestions :)

Good luck on the site man, hope you can find everything you need...think the database and all that can be done via php/mysql...takes quite some time to learn but worth it in the end.

Hell PSU is looking for a PHPer, learn it, get some extra time on the computer and get your name plastered all over the site :D

http://www.lycos.co.uk/

get fre webspace form there and you get php AND a mysql database. i dont advise hosting your whole site on there because of the adverts, but the forums dont have any adverts [try www.phpbb.com] and just link to that from another hosting place.

c'est simple. heres one i did:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/djfishboy see all the adverts? well, click on 'Forum' and... bing! no adverts! so just to clarify, put your forum on lycos and the rest of your site somehwere else.

phpbb (http://www.phpbb.com) is good.

I'm currently using invision's (http://invisionboard.com) board, which allows a great amount of control (which is why I chose it over phpbb).

There's also yabb (http://www.yabbforum.com/).

All of those are free.

As for a registration page....
Go to HotScripts (http://www.hotscripts.com/JavaScript/Scripts_and_Programs/index.html) and click on the User Authentication link. These are javascripts and you should be able to use them no matter what your server supports (as far as like php, asp, and the like go).
