I am having troublr running PlanetSide at 20+ fps. My system is as follows:
-2.0 ghz
-256 mb ram
-64mb integrated video
-integrated sound
-30.0 gb hard drive

I was wondering if I put 512 more ram (768 mb) and upgraded my video card if that would greatly increase performance, any help would be greatly appreciated

Get a new video card like a new Nvidia or Radeon.
Upgrade your RAM to, preferably to 1GB.

ok, i have found some parts, i need to know if they will help my PS run faster:
video card- P56-2701 :: PNY GeForce FX 5200 Video Card / 128MB / PCI
RAM- V96-1904 :: Viking 512MB PC2100 DDR 266MHz Memory

Yes, i know the card is PCI, thats all i have, i dont have agp

any comments would greatly be appreciated.

It honestly might be better to wait and pay for a new MB, Chip, memory and Graphics. You could get kickin equipment for all of that for 800 to 1000 dollars.

PCI? Errr... I'd add a new mobo to your list then :-\

Exactly what I did lol

Buy the new PCi card for now, save for a new comp, build it, and get all the uber stuff, like I'll have 2.8Ghz P4 HT, 4 GB DDR400 on a ABIT IC7-G When I'm done building mine. :D

4 GB is definately overkill. You'll barely see a difference between that and 1 GB, in fact, you might see a performance decrease.

For that you could have bought an AMD Athlon 64 fx-51 instead of the 2.8GHZ P4.

Nah the 2.8 P4c is a very good OCer, like the 2.4.

and the FX-51 cost 700 some doen't it?

Yes, the ram and even the pci-5200 would help a good bit. But you would still have to play at like 800x600, very low res, and still lag in big fights. Trying to get good performance out of PS is expensive.

Rbstr and his Intel heresy. Go AMD!

I like the AMD64 but i would not buy it currently even if i had the money i would wait for the 939 socket so you can get a dual channel on the non-FX amd64's, and use regualr memory.

And Win XP 64 bit with good driver suport would be nice

He does have a point there. Wait for socket 939, mine currently doesnt have Dual-channel RAM, which is a bit of a bummer. They will also allow u to use an FX-51 with faster (and cheaper) regular ram, instead of the Registered ECC it currently requires.

Still, despite my not being able to run RAM in dual channel, my integrated memory controller helps make up for that a bit. Also, the 64-bit edition of Windows XP (now available as a free 1 year trial) is finally getting some better drivers. I'm hoping to get my AMD running XP64 some time, provided I can dig up a decent hard drive that has over 4 gigs of space on it.
