View Full Version : Font resizing and those damn popup ads

In the past 2 weeks, I've started to notice I've been getting a heavier amount of popups (often knocking me off FFXI and lagging my computer to shit and back). Then a few days ago, I logged on to suddenly notice that many fonts on websites (such as the font in peoples' sigs and the quote font) were very very small. I think that a popup made them this way. Then just now, those same fonts became very big. It's one of those nagging things that piss me off, so would any of you all know how to fix it? Also are there any popup blockers that actually WORK that I could download for free? Or even buy? I'm so pissed off at these damn popups, I want to shoot the people that developed the idea for them.

PS- just remembered another problem. I think some kind of popup installed something in my computer (or maybe it's this new MMhell thing), but in many of the topics I read on this site (haven't really noticed it yet on any other sites), words are hyperlinked. Like in a thread I just read there was the word uncaring, and caring was hyperlinked. Is this new to the MMhell thing, or am I bugged even more than I thought?

Spybot S&D (http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10122137.html)
Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)
Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) (excellent popup blocker)

Don't download every little mini-game, free trial, demo, or activeX control you see and you'll get a lot less spyware. Also, stay away from programs like Kazzaa.

Rbstr, you should make a sticky thread that covers things like ridding yourself of spyware, viruses, blocking popups, and running a basic firewall.

Have em both. They fix it temporarily, but they keep coming back. (yes I know I can keep doing them, but I'd like a perma fix).

The only "perma fix" is to change your computing habbits. Spyware and adware don't just magicly manifest themselves on your system. You are putting it there, unknowingly of course, but it still requires that you take some action in order for it to get onto your comptuer.

i think that the real permanent fix is to disable internet explorer. :D

hear me out!

mozilla firefox disables pop-ups period. firefox just doesnt allow pop-ups to happen, because its disabled in the browser itself, the thing that lets other windows open without your input.

of course firefox can enable it with the ctrl key or the shift key or whatever key it is

www.mozilla.org for firefox

also ad-aware 6 non-professional doesnt come with ad-watch 3.0, which is essential to permanently kill adware and spyware because its like auto protect.

i wont post a download link here, rbstr would probably kick me :(

i suppose you could pm me though

well,im a fan of planetside, so i browsed this website, first at the fan fiction section. IMO the best story was the former Lilibird2431's "The jouney of a young terran named lance", and the main character's codename was KiKiNCHiKiN, so i named myself after him (i love that story) as KiKiNCHiKiNcool.

Anyway, Lilibird2431 changed his name into KiKiNCHiKiN like a month or two later, so im thinking about changing my name to avoid confusion, heh

If you wanna keep IE, try this (http://www.panicware.com/process_download.html?prdid=PSFREE). I use it and it works great. Just hold ctrl for those new windows you want. It's free and as I said, it works great for me.
