I'd like to tell you yes, but I don't know dick about Dells, call their tech support line. They can tell you real quick. The problem is if your comp is old, the max ram might be 512. I don't know.

it's one 1024 max its only 6 months old and last time I called tech support I got this guy I couldn't understand. He talked like Boomhower in king of the hill and it took me 45 minutes to get to him:mad:

The only other thing would be if that Ram had to be run in equal size pairs, but I don't think so. Why not just get the larger stick anyway and be done with it. Other than that, it looks like you got the right thing.

It'll work, you might experience some instability and it's not a recomended setup to have 2 different sized ram chips...

but heres a tip to help whit some more stability:

Make sure the 512MB chip is in DIMM slot 1, not 2 or 3. and have the 256chip in DIMM 2... Yes it matters in both performance and stability.

how bad will the instabability be?

It's not a guarantee that you'll have instability, if you don't OC and such you'll probably never notice anny.... but there IS a small chance that your system can become unstable, i.e lock up, random reboots and such. It's not likely if you don't OC but i figured i should warn you.
