Right now im using a 128mb ram in one DIMM socket and a 512 in another. Is it ok to mix like this? Im having no problems at all so I assume that you dont have to balence them out or anything like that.

If you computer is running, then there is no problem at all.

I asked a similar question to a HP tech support guy, he told me that you don't really have to worry about damaging your computer when you try to mix and match ramm, and that if the ram is incompatable you will know immediately at start up. (when I did try to run incompatable ram (500mhz and 800 mhz RD ramm) my computer would not start at all)

If it runs stable it's no problem... but your RAM performs a very tiny bitt slower whitout equal sized chips.

i am looking to upgrade my ram to 512 DDR, although i dont know the exact spec of me current 256ddr from crucial. Any system tools able to find this information out for me?

Is it ok to mix different branded ram if the specs are the same?

Aslong as the specs are matched point for point i don't see why you can't be able to run 2 different brands of ram...

As for tools checking that, hmm can't see to remember anny atm.
