Assuming PS2 launches 6-12 months from now, will you be upgrading your hardware to play it?

I practically just build what I have now, so likely not.

i7 2600k
GTX 570
16 gb RAM

Should be enough for high or at the very least medium.

I already upgraded for Skyrim and PS2. I built a whole new comp that cost around $1200 if you include monitor and nice headphones.

i5
2x 560ti
8gb Ram (should add more here though).

I made the mistake of believing the launch hype and jumped in and bought a new machine last year solely to be able to play PS2 :rolleyes:

So, much as I would love to, I'm afraid "the bank manager says no"

Still, It's got a phenom II X6 with most of the other bits, so should still be able to run with enough eye candy to keep me happy

Also it appears you made this thread already and it was moved lol. This one will likely be moved as well.

I already moved your other thread to the proper forum. I'm closing that one and moving this there also. There was no reason to make another.

That was lightning fast, Goku. I submitted and hit refresh, and my thread was already gone :P I put it in PS2 discussion because it's not really a tech question, just a general take on the community's feeling of what it will cost to run the game adequately.

I'm assuming you think this thread is worthless, so go ahead and close it down. It's not like there's ever more than 1 viewer at a time in Tech :(

Yeah haha, I didn't even see the first had moved (thought I forgot to submit). :P

Too bad, I was kind of interested in what the general community thought about this topic.

I put in a new video card a couple months ago.

I find the idea of "upgrading for PS2" slightly hilarious at this point in time. We have little indication of real-world performance.
By the time it's actually released we'll have seen price drops on several components, if not new generations entirely.

Aye, I'm waiting until I'm able to play it until I "upgrade".

"Upgrade" might not be an accurate term though, since I pretty much need a new everything.

Fuck yeah I am. Bought i5-3570k, P8Z77-V pro, 64 GB Crucial M4, 8 GB GSkill Ripjaws X.

Edit: I am thinking a GTX 670 will be nice, but I might get the GTX 680. Once I understand how well they overclock, the decision will be easier. Monitor will be BenQ XL2420T.

Edit 2: Definitely getting the 670. http://www.overclock.net/t/1253432/gigabyte-gtx-670-oc-version-hands-on

Probably gonna upgrade my GPU, running an HD5770 1GB atm.

My current system, AMD 6990, 2500k, 8gb ram, liquid cooling etc is plenty (i hope) if not, well ill have an excuse to get an even better one :)

Yes.
Current setup is a Q9550 w/ 8GB DDR3 1333 and 6950.
Will upgrade to i5 Ivy and nVidia 670 or 680, whichever is the better deal when I upgrade.
Possible 120GB - 160GB SSD also. Depends on the budget.

But at minimum I'm upgrading the video card before release. The other upgrades can come along later.

I built my PC earlier this year. I couldn't be happier. Only spent 800ish, and it runs everything flawlessly.

Machine's a beast for 800 bucks (got about 1100 worth through deals) so even if its a year since assembly I'm sure it'll run planetside effortlessly.

Will i upgrade for PS2; no. I will upgrade at my normal pace.

Just ordered an SSD so now running;

Q9550
4 GB DDR2 1600
HD6970 2GB
256GB M4

A new CPU+mobo+ram is on the cards for later this year.
I'm in no rush though, the Q9550 is getting a bit long in the tooth but this is not my workstation and games generally don't result in a CPU bottleneck.

I just ordered my new rig, because my computer is getting old (it has a 775 socket mobo, and an Intel Q6600...), and because it was hell laggy on Guild Wars 2 betas, which made me think I wouldn't get all the awesomeness Forgelight has to offer if I didn't "upgrade".

I guess that means I upgraded my rig for Planetside 2?

Here's what I ordered:

MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V PRO
Processor: Intel Core i7 3770K
Graphic card: Asus GeForce GTX 670 DCU II - 2 Go
RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE BLUE 4 x 4 Go DDR3 PC12800 (I know, 16Go aren't necessary, but it's so cheap I thought "why not?")
System (and often used programs) hard drive: OCZ Vertex 3 - 240 Go (SSD)
Secondary hard drive: Western Digital VelociRaptor SATA III 6 Gb/s - 600 Go
And some other stuff, like a new case and an air cooler for the processor.

Hell was it expensive... But it's gonna rock pretty much everything for the next 4 or 5 years to come :)

I don't want to knock too much, as I think the 670gtx is a great buy, but:
If you want to rock at games (meaning good frame rates and graphical levels) 5 years in the future you're far better off buying mid-range now and then a new midrange computer in like 2 years.

Buying top-end for longevity or to save money in the long term doesn't give you either. Unlike an appliance, where buying high quality might give you something that will last for ages, computers continue to get exponentially more powerful. What you buy top end today if going to be missing, for instance, up-to-date DirectX compatibility, asides from being slower compared to the offerings 4 years from now.

Rbstr hit it right on the head. Better of spending $200ish now on say a GTX 560 Ti, which is still a good card. Then down the road 2 years from now get a GTX 960 that makes the GTX 670 look like a little bitch ;).

I'm a little confused why you told me to get the $400 670 instead of the $250 570 then, Goku.

Though my parents are sweet and chipped in half so it was effectively a $200 670... but still.

It depends on the person's setup. 460 -> 570 isn't a true upgrade in my opinion. However to a 670 that is a real upgrade, which is why I consider that worth the extra cost. 670 has more VRam and better power usage as well vs the 570.

What I was talking about was more for people that have the mentality of going big with a $3,000 computer for 5 years. Instead of spreading out that to get better parts throughout those years. Like spending a $1,200 now. Upgrading the video card in 12-18 months, then swapping out the CPU a year later after for a higher performing one. Then continuing the cycle.

I'm not upgrading specifically for PS2, it just happens to be a nice coincidence.

CPUs are to the point where they barely even matter as long as yours is basically up to date (if we're talking gaming).
Your graphics card is the most likely bottleneck now and in the future. It's potentially worth an extra $ or two - especially for bumping from a 560 or 570 to a 670 which exists in a sort of crazy price/performance zone right now.
Bumping your cpu up from an i5 is probably not worth it.

For instance, my old(!) i5 750 has been perfectly adequate for everything I've played recently.

Maximus Gene is waste of money IMO, get a $150 MB and use the extra $100 to get a better GPU. Good build though :) I'll post some pics of mine here in a few minutes I think.

I haven't built a new computer since the 2003... for PS1.

So yes, I will absolutely be building a new one. My first post-college paycheck will be spent on it.
