Maybe they realized six days after they opened the beta signups that it was much too early to be letting people sign up or something. That or they got way too many people, more than enough to take care of the closed testing spots so everyone who didn't get a chance or signed up with the wrong stats is out of luck. It doesn't, however, make any sense that they wouldn't let you change your information, what if you moved to a new address and they selected you? They'd send a beta cd to someone who's never heard of the game.
