Health care in the US has always been organised strangely. :/ Not at all to the advancement of the population but with a severe focus on profit it seems.
I know a person from Florida who has never been treated after a car accident from the mid 90s because she could not afford private insurance, not because it could not be treated and is therefore semi-invalid for almost 1.5 decades now.
