Change "player house" to "outfit bunker/base" and "persian rugs and golden sinks" to "Faction Banners and Defense Turrets" and there might be something to it.
I am completely for outfits and even players being able to upgrade bases in a long term way, and possibly build their own(though I don't think there is room for that on their current continent). Its a space that as you said, players can call their own, make a mark on the world, but it must also be relavent to that world. Just an apartment or house far from the front lines serves no purpose. Whatever they add to the game, has to provide a tangible benefit to the fight.
As there is already a system for leadership, I don't think the Emperor idea is needed.
