Continent Population Caps?

I have little doubt there is another thread about this but I got tired of searching. Just back on this site after about a 4 year absence. I hear there will be a cap of 2000 players per continent. Any truth to this? I don't recall what it was on PS1. 1200? I look forward to massive battles.
