^ They were not immortal, every time one is reconstructed it is simply a clone with memories intact. The original is decontructed at the molecular/subatomic/etc level and thus dead. Every time you warp you die.
Why weren't they reconstructed? Who says they aren't underground? Who says this was their homeworld and not an abandoned colony?
