I as well tried the Punisher when I first started and then hated it and stopped using it. Since that time it has become my primary medium assault weapon. I as well use the plasma, switch to machine gun and kill 'em.
My grief never went very high, all was good. (I tried the thumper and my grief went through the roof. I stopped using it
)
I shall try the jammer concept and see how long it confuses my enemies.
Only down side to the punisher is the HUGE, FAST bloom it has.
