I sunk hours and hours into DA:O, and couldn't get past the tutorial of DA2 - very, very different feel to combat in the two games. I HATED DA2 with a passion.
If you like Baldur's gate, I'd say definitely try DA:O. You might not like it, but you can't judge it based on the response to DA2
I keep planning an epic, end to end playthrough of Baldur's gate (using the Trinity mod), NWN, NWN2 then DA:O, but when I try it I find nostalgia has caused me to mentally edit out the bits of all those games that frustrated me....
