It's a demo. They're going to do a lot of things for the demo to facilitate combat for short play sessions that you won't have in a real planetside 2 battle. Gotta take what we see here with a grain of salt. They're trying to simulate hundreds of players battling across a continent with only a few dozen. Like unlimited resources...certainly they won't have that in the final game, but adding the resource metagame into a 15 minute play session is a bit overwhelming.

Plus you have the game filled with people that have never played PS1 nor will they understand the nuances like max can't drive tanks.

Looked like they succeeded quite well from the footage I saw. Gotta remember that a demo isn't the real game. It's a publicity piece so don't get too worked up about stuff we see there that may have been put in just to make the demo more fun and compelling for new players.
