<WoW> Good to play with friends?

My best friend who lives in North Carolina and I like to play games with each other. When he moved we started playing Age of Empires II. Did that for a year, then he told me to get FFXI. We played that till the summer. His new game that he thinks we'll both like is WoW. I've been swearing that I wouldn't give into the hype of this game, but I looked at some of the screenshots and it looks good. So what I'm wondering: is it a good game to play with like 1 or 2 really good friends? I know we had fun in FFXI for a good while since we could do quests together and junk. I'm assuming this will be better from what I've heard.
