Re: PlanetSide 2 App Released

It works fine on my Motorola Zoom.

Excellent stuff.

Wish list ..... graphing stats as they are in the gameo 'Stats' page itself, I'd like this in Planetside Players too. .... also being able to zoom in on the map further.

Gripe .... unpredictability of the data feed, it's been poor recently although maybe that has been because it was being worked on in preparation for this app.

Re: PlanetSide 2 App Released

You need a not-so-old Android phone to run the app. My HTC Desire (not HD, yes, I know that's years old now), even with a re-partition to give more phone data space, starts running out of space rapidly once the app is running and downloading data. In other words the devs didn't think it would be a good idea to have the downloaded data go on the SD card (where I have lots of space free).

The app itself installs fine, it's just that huge data grab to 'system data' space that brings my phone to its knees.

Re: PlanetSide 2 App Released

A little more information. My phone is set to install to SD card as default and indeed the PS2 Mobile app does respect that (I see 'Move to phone' in the application details, so it's on the SD card, rather than 'Move to SD' if it was on the main phone storage). After only installing, not running yet, it is taking up 5.00MB total/Application and 4.00KB data.

Now I run it and get a sequence of 'Loading <something>' messages at the bottom of the splash screen. I can see it's managing a ~2Mbps download (likely limited by by bandwidth shaping for my WiFi). Now I wait ...

... and wait ...

... and wait ...

ah finally the main page of things. Now the app's details show 24.34MB total, 5.00MB application and 19.34MB data. And my phone's internal storage is down from 55MB free to 32MB free.

Strangely this time, so far, it's actually working, unlike when I first tried it last night. Likely due to differences in other apps' use of system data space.

Now I can actually test it... WTF nothing when I hit my 'menu' button? No settings at all ? Which certainly means no option to store the data on SD card instead. Oh my god the slow scrolling. Aha, and after logging in, selecting my main character, and merely trying to scroll the list up and down a bit... Force Close. Yes, I'm filling in a report.

LOL, it's unavailable in Russian iTunes... Go-go SOE.

Nevertheless, skyexile is on the frontpage of the app... Gratz!

Some questions:

1. Does this App provide any information not availible on Players.PLanetside2.com or PLanetside2.com?

2. Are you able to access ingame comms such as VOIP and chat?

3. Are they going to make available a web browser version?

VOIP yes, there's an option although I haven't tested it. Other than that I think it's no to the first and I doubt it to the second.

Doesn't seem to work on my Motorola Droid 3, unfortunately. It'll load, but anything I do causes it to switch to a black screen, hang, or crash outright.

I managed to get the Stats page to load once, but then it crashed when I tried to switch to another page.

I should add: if you have an Android device and want to see your PSU sig on your home screen or lock screen, you can do this with an app called Showr
