Render magnification scopes properly


Can a moderator please add the Improvement prefix to this thread? I was a noob and did not read the rules for this forum. Sorry about that.

Have you ever noticed how in the vast majority of FPS games, when you use a scope, the game zooms in the whole view of the screen, not just the scope?



In real life, only the view within the scope is zoomed in:

The only video game I have found that renders their scopes properly is Red Orchestra 2:


I'm calling on you, developers, to pay attention to details like this to make this game stand out above others. Of course, rendering the scope like this takes more work on the part of the computer, so it would be fine to have an option to turn this off and revert to the non-realistic method for slower computers.

EDIT: Had to change the second image, because website from the original does not like people embedding their pictures.

Agree..... In PS1, there were almost no scopes, just the same zoom you'd see with the default in-helmet zoom, though having a weapon up would increase the range that the helmet zoom could go.

I agree that what is seen through the scope should be completely different than things outside the scope.

Is that just for sniper rifles? I'm pretty sure I saw an AR with a scope where you could see outside.

Would be cool. Though I would think it is a highly technical feature... you obiviously don't see it in that many games (Red Orchestra 2 is fairly new, maybe it's even a new technology for game devs?).

As an Red Orchestra player, I demand this. The sniper's scope in RO is by far, the best one.
