Borked poll is borked. These categories are way too specific.

I selected >100 because the vast majority of Planetside 2 players will be higher than that, and that's just fine for an MMOFPS.

Our bullets will hurt less, we need more of them. In ps1 a shit connection would not stop you owning with a jh. Mcg was a different story.
No whining. We'll see how it goes :-D

When I play QuakeLive I like to get around 10-30ms. I would say that is considered fast and what I want to get.
30-50ms is considered acceptably fast, and I won't be concerned.
50-80ms is considered acceptable, but rather find a 30ms ping server.
80-100 is considered slow, and I will be concerned.
>100ms is considered totally unacceptable and I will try all other servers first. I will probably still play on that server even if I cannot find any other.
>200ms is total trash. I will consider the situation as 'there are no servers right now' and will probably play something else or check my internet connection to make sure everything is okay.

Yeah, this poll is kinda predictable...

Although it is interesting to see how many people have it so good that they would not except > 40 ms. WTF? fucken princesses!

Getting less than 300 ms is usually my benchmark for playability, but every online shooter has a different threshold for being "playable" due to differnet net code, hit prediction etc... The fact that this is an MMO fps, i'm counting on the playability threshold (meaning it's still fun) for PS2 to be > 300 at times.

This is the one and only, single downside of living here:

... as opposed to a gun that loses a shot that does more damage?

TR 5 points per shot, 20 shots to get to 100 points. Same TTK.
...lose 3 shots = 15/100, 85% damage...

NC 20 points a shot, 5 shots to get to 100 points. Same TTK.
...lose 3 shots = 60/100, 40% damage...

VS is somewhere in between... where am I wrong? Rough example, but it seems to me either NC has it worse, or no one does...

I disgree, i believe in my experience that playing with a jackhammer with high ping was easier than playing with an MCG. MCG requires decent tracking skills to use it at it's full potential. Tracking with low ping is considerably easier than with high ping, due to the fact that when a target makes a direction change, there is a delay before you see it.

Then there is VS... wtf, i swear using a lasher basically made your lag worse!

40 ms is about as high as I'll go. Played Planetside 1 with 33 ms. I tend to have really low latency in games. As long as I can't tell I normally don't care. At work I get 8 ms to the OnLive servers which is nice. Basically at no point do I want to feel the latency and below 40 ms seems to work well.

Re: What is your acceptable latency

I can't believe some of you are complaining about 100ms latency, i live in New Zealand so i will be lucky if i get below 300ms connecting to a US game, if it is normal then it could be 500ms, so i would feel pretty damn good if i got less than 500ms for a MMOFPS game. Unless there is a server in Australia then i would want less than 500ms.

Now i can understand why my American friends don't understand the concept of latency, they just say "No you have a bad connection" Which i try explaining that since i am so far away that it takes time for my info to travel there and back, but they still don't get it.

Anything under 100ms would be acceptable to me.

It's entirely dependent on the game because not all netcode is equal.

I have never been any good any FPS. And I put 100% of it down to my lack of skill. The fact is in every other FPS I still suck. I have never been good at this game, and its very frustrating. I am what they call a noob or terribad gamer. It doesn't matter if it's very precise or not, I'm not good at making up the difference.

I hate sucking so bad with a passion.

I put 500~1000 because it doesn't matter for me.

Poll is truely borked. Should have included at least up until 200. 300 for those Aussie pricks because I just feel bad for them.

Anyway, I would put down anything <150 is acceptable while I would prefer <100.

Anything less then 80 is fine. BUT that depends on the game engine. Last I saw at GDC there was some local prediction issues.
