Now this is exciting... Perhaps better than beta starting. I realize I probably won't get in to beta right away even when it starts. But another hour or three from TB would be just as good in my book.

i think SOE will have Totalbiscuit make the beta start announcement so he can really start getting real action footage (500+ players) . that will create some amazing publicity for planetside 2 both in American and Europe

This is actually not that bad of an idea. It WOULD create a lot of publicity for SOE and PS2 but I just don't see it happen unfortunately. Any footage though coming from TB is good!

Well, this suggests to me that the beta won't be early this week, as why else would he travel there to play a game he could otherwise play from home. Unless, of course, he's showing off new content (maps) that won't be included in the beta.

Edit: Also, maybe he'll be live casting from comic-con? I hear SOE will have a showing there.

to get more footage so by Thursday ,he will be back home and have finished the editing of the footage . Then he announces the closed beta on thursday and hypes the rest of his viewers for open beta

But if they were doing their tech test, surely they'd just give him the client to play the game early and get his footage that way, right?

So make all the Beta players sign an NDA, stream the footage anyway, and whip the remaining player base who didn't get into first into an absolute homicidal frenzy?

For everyone who is expecting them to announce the beginning of invites to external closed beta (and it's imperative that you be specific when asking this question or you leave the door open to plausible deniability answers), I hope they will, but you still have to account for these quotes from Radarx. Based on everything he said, they will most likely maintain official secrecy on closed beta when it opens up to external testers.

I can't remember ever seeing a company provide a specific Beta date (if it happens it must be rare). They do announce they are entering closed Beta (and that's effectively what we are doing today) but NDA's and dates are never made public.

I wish we could provide you more, but that's just not how game Betas are done unfortunately.

I do know some folks are disappointed and I honestly wish we could have set reasonable expectations when communicating. To be fair, all we promised was an announcement regarding Beta. This is effectively our Closed Beta announcement. It's unlikely we'll announce "Hey we let X number of folks in" and dates are just not something that happens in modern game development. A date is a commitment and we take them seriously.
