Would buying PS1 now still work if I bought it off Gamefly and then cancelled the 1 month subscription after confirming the purchase? $10 is just about what I'm comfortable paying to get in early.

Yes, you get a free month so you cancel the recurring subscription once you get in beta.

Tech test invites had nothing to do with key or vet status, purely the specs SOE wanted to test.
