I prefer about 5000ms. I never get shot that way.

But really less than 200ms is pretty playable. Less than 100ms is a great experience, and 0ms is HOST HACKS!

I'm ok dealing with anything around 50-100ms. Naturally, I'd want better but that's quite hard with the lowgrade connection I have.

I try to play on servers with pings close to 20ms, but I've never had issues with anything under 60. Above that, some games start to get choppy.

But luckily, Time Warner's service is quite good in my neighborhood, and I get low 40's pretty much anywhere in North America.

Re: What is your acceptable latency

<100ms is pretty much always fine.
Afterwards things might get shaky in an FPS, more than 200 effects the game for sure.

Mostly because if you've got that much ping, you're usually dropping packets.

Its hard to say. I don't terribly mind 150 latency so long as it moves smoothly and every shot that hits registers properly. Depending on the netcode and how latency is handled, 80 could feel kinda smooth, or 20 could feel really chunky, so I really hope that they nail it down before / during beta.

It very much depends on the game I find, but going on an average about 150 is ok, getting towards 200 and beyond frustrates me though.

Also your poll ping categories are, IMO, quite narrow.

I have never been any good at PS. And I put 100% of it down to to latency or my equipment. The fact is every other FPS I can play at a good rate. But I have never been good at this game, and its very frustrating. I am what they call a twitch gamer. I need it to be very precise as I'm not good at making up the difference.

I hate lag with a passion.

I put 20~40 as I need it to feel instant.

I think it will matter in particular to us TR. We want/need each and every bullet to have an equal chance at impacting enemies to offset reduced damage per round. If packets get dropped the fear is bullets vanish from existence. That said, I'll take 50 or so milliseconds.

Any latency is unacceptable. I will be moving to San Diego and will rent an apartment across the street from SOE.

You'll still just be running into walls trying to figure out how to "turn around", but your ping will be amazing.
