Rocklett... potential lag problems?

We haven't really seen the rocklett, or any other anti-vehicle weapons, but the explosions could cause some seroius lag serverside. Also, if the rockletts are effective against infantry, then whole squads will be running around nading like a bunch of pussies I guess the Devs would balance that out, but are the explosions big... ?

Remember, the Rocklet is rifle-size, and ammo will probably be very restricted. If they model the rockets right, they'll have shaped charges: the main explosive force of the rocket is focused forward for antitank use.

I doubt they'll make the explosions massive anyways because they know what they will cause. Just have faith that they know what they're doing.

Forget the thumper... How about the TR buggy thing and the TR AV MAX, the pounder.

That'll make some stuff blow up.

What makes you think that AOE weapons will cause server-side lag? Figuring out if a line (or arc, which is much more complex mathematically) is at least as much work as figuring out if how far away you are from a given point.

And I would be shocked to find that things weren't broken up below the continent level, so they don't have to check every player on the continent against every shot and explosion.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Now the devs have stated that their hit-location system is extremely precise. Down to the individual triangle. That's why you can shoot someone while they're inside a buggy. That's NOT a simple cacluation, by any stretch. I'm not even sure how to do that one.

They've also stated that they cast rays from the center of the blast to every effected characters limbs, body, and head. If you've got partial cover, you'll only take partial damage.

Even with all that stuff going on, I wouldn't worry about it. Forgedaboudit.

The actual AOE effect doesn't take up too much server-side. It's really the actual explosion effects which generally cause "lag" (framerate loss), because if the explosion is fairly big, the effect is usually pretty big too.
