Most alien stuff looks fairly similar in sci-fi anything today. You either have alien green or alien purple. VS were already purple, so there ya go. Like T-ray said in the recent video. The VS design is triangular, scalloped, and obviously shiney. That's not unique, but it's not a direct copy either. Like other people have said, the VS vehicles look similar to the new cylon raider, or the ships from independence day, or the batwing. There's nothign wrong with drawing comparisons, because they are inevitable.
It kinda reminds me of the opening scene of The Player with Tim Robbins where they are pitching movie ideas and EVERY idea is simply "movie A meets movie B". Nothing truely original because it's all be done before. The real bottom line is that in a game like Halo, they have AI and set pieces going on in the background to simulate that you are in some massive epic battle. In Planetside, you actually are in a massive epic battle. |

TR soldiers use black and red, they have an easy to recognize headgear - and those yellow points are typical Eye of Sauron shield generators. Don't let yourselves mislead by the NC-blue jeans, we all know the truth! And look at the mustache! He is TR, hands down.

My first thought when I saw the Vanu's dyson, is that it was really similiar to the
Dramiel: Daredevil: From EvE Online, which is an amazing game. Love that they are using the same skill system from that game just with their own tweaks. Last edited by Draegon; 2012-01-11 at 01:24 PM. |

Humans share 98% of our DNA with all the other mammals on this planet. I've met quite a few people who struggle to tell the difference between a Lexus IS, BMW 3 series, or a Merc C-class, too. And they do have a valid reason to be confused - they all have 4 wheels, usually 4 doors, they have white lights in the front and red ones in the back, and are usually black or silver. DETAILS PEOPLE. Details make all the difference in the world.

Yeah, I don't understand people constantly comparing this with Halo...The Covenant comparisons least of all.
Are the shapes similar? No. Covenant is rounded, VS is angled. Is the texture similar? No. Covenant is smooth, VS is scalloped. Is the colour similar? Barely. Covenant is a pale bluish purple, VS is a stronger, pinkier purple. I'm just not seeing it. |

Damn Ailos, I was thinking of automotive styling as I was reading thru this thread. Great analogy. Cadillac CTS has Stealth Bomber/Fighter lines......but then again sharp angular lines have come and gone thru automotive styling from the very beginning.......so, we may initially say or think Cadillac got their CTS styling cues from a Stealth fighter.....but 50 years ago the Italians had ripped it off of American automotive styling common to the 20's and 30's......so......it's like fashion,.....it's all been done.....LONG ago. There's little "new" music for that matter....12 notes in the chromatic scale......throughout history, every note has been played billions of times......so, is their any truly original or "new" music ? . Vanu and Covenant have about as many similarities and differences as the Tyrannid do to the Zerg.
The point isn't that there are tons of unique things about the Vanu, the point is that there are enough similarities to make a comparison. The Covenant surely were not copied but they were certainly an influence in the design of the Vanu. If you don't like this that's fine, it's not like Halo doesn't have influence written all over it from other projects, like Aliens, Doom, and even the Protoss in StarCraft. |

Both extremes of this topic bother me.
There are similarities that you can compare between Halo and Planetside. Don't act like they aren't there, people don't keep bringing it up randomly for no reason. Conversely, the games have a lot of differences, from the large scale of how they handle balance and battles, to the small scale details of color/shape/design philosophies, etc. There are similarities between Planetside and a ton of other things as well. There are also a ton of similarities between Halo and a ton of other things. Some of those similarities overlap between the two series, others don't. Pointing out the idiocy of calling Planetside a Halo clone is fine by me, but I just wish that someone could mention the two games in a single, rational sentence without the fanboys raging about it. |

There's a simple explanation for this. Halo was very popular so many many people know about it. PlanetSide is not well known. Same concept when someone says, WoW-clone...
The statement pisses us PS1 vets off because the game mechanics are very different. Whereas when someone says, WoW-clone they are more correct in saying that since the game mechanics are the very similar... |
