The amount of CEP you gain depends a lot on what you and your squad does ingame. If you follow the zerg and fight in all the big battles you will get a lot of CEP and a lot of frustration over some of the people that make up the zerg. If you, on the other hand, like defending bases on locked continents against enemies trying to break the lock you will gain little CEP, but do your faction a big favor. Sadly you have to do the first to get to the second, and IMHO more fun/challenging part (at least if you want to get there before all the players are gone from the servers)
